im 21 and half weeks and im still suffering with hyperemesis. my sibsided for a few weeks but i was on steroids to help with this. i couldnt stay on them any longer as the baby was at risk of diabetes.

however, i know how you feel. i always feel something is stuck in my throat or im producing too much saliva and it makes me gag. luckily i always carry special sick bags around with me. still smells make me heave too. sometimes it is mind over matter though with some things x

I wish I had read this message sooner. There are several theories as to why that happens, but the one that sounded logical to me is that the body produces a hormone, relaxine, in preparation for the birth. This hormone is supposed to relax some of the tissues that will be involved in the birth, but unluckily for us, it also affects some of the "caps" that seal off access to parts of the tract, so food winds up moving up and down between your throat and intestines and of course, there's the added issue of reflux that is such a pain during hyperemesis pregnancies, because it just amplifies nausea.
