I don't want to get my hopes up yet, but your prayers and good thoughts have done a lot of good. Probably TMI, but they removed 1 1/2 gallons of fluid over the course of 2 hours, then had to give him two IV bags of a protein liquid. He doesn't yet know when the specialist can fit him in, but his PCP feels that this is an autoimmune disorder and that it can probably be controlled by meds. Dr. Google tells me that there is an AI hepatitis that really can appear out of nowhere and has no known cause. He's not back to normal yet, but he was able to maneuver the stairs for the first time in several weeks and then drove himself to the store! Thank you all for your support.

When my dad died unexpectedly nearly 2 years ago, his little brother stepped in to fill the loss. They'd been attached at the hip their whole lives, so it hit us both pretty hard. Two weeks ago, Uncle John had trouble walking back from his mailbox. A battery of quick tests and urgent referrals to specialists have given him a diagnosis of cirrhosis. He's never been a drinker, but he's been a hardcore Tylenol user for years. His waist has expanded by 10" overnight, and he's going on Tuesday to have fluid removed from his abdomen.
He's the last of his generation, the last of that part of the family, and my last link to my father. This isn't looking very good, and I'm not handling it well at all. My aunt's health isn't the greatest, either, because she lost a kidney a year or so back. They have no children. Please keep them both in your prayers.

My love and prayers are sent for you and your family. All my Dr.'s were recommending Tylenol for pain control, and my liver function was all messed up in less than a year. I will never take another Tylenol, and I pray that your Uncle can recover from this.
