I need help choosing a walker

I would appreciate opinions on types of walkers. I moved from a cane to a walker a couple of months ago. I use a 4 wheel rollator at home since I rarely leave lately, and when I do my husband is with me and holds my hand. I did try a 3 wheel walker thinking it's smaller and lighter and would be good for the car, but it wasn't stable enough for me when trying it at home. It tipped pretty easily. I am having lots of trouble with fatigue and quickly I get to the point where I can't stand up straight and have to lean on something or my legs just give out and I have to sit. I am curious about an up right walker? I know this is a lot, but I thought you all would be a better source than my doctor. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a 4 wheel rollator with seat that I got from the MSAA program free. I use it all the time. I have seen the upright walker online and it looks awesome! but expensive.It might be something I'll invest in in the future as I can't seem to stop myself hunching over with my walker. Doubled51 has one I believe. Hopefully he will chime in.

Gosh you guys are so strong, I’ve been avoiding doing that and have an ongoing drunken stagger on a daily basis. Did look at adjustable canes yesterday. Stay positive xx

If you are having troubling with hunching over then your walker handles are probably too low and should be raised. If you are standing upright (not slouching) then the top of the handles should be level with your wrist joint. If they are any lower then you have no choice but to hunch over your walker. This hunched over posture can also cause neck problems because you have to raise your head at an awkward angle to be able to see where you are going in order to avoid stacking into walls and doorways and furniture and people and pets and cars and.............

My handles and the legs are set as high as possible. When I started using it I did that in purpose so I didn’t start hunching over. I went to PT today and they had an upright walker so I was able to try it. It was so much better. I stood straight up and was able to stay that way. There wasn’t a seat, so during the times of extreme fatigue it wouldn’t be helpful. But I did like it better than my 4 wheel rollator.

Sunshine400 - my comment about hunching over possibly being caused walker handles not being high enough was a response to Starlight5's complaint about having trouble stopping themselves from hunching over their walker.

In any case, the video clip is probably still useful to other people who don't have ready access to a PT or OT to make sure their handles are at the right height.

My grandmother has the upright walker and my mother luvs that she got for her. It fits into small spaces. My mother got hers from amazon it it was cheaper from there than other places

I've been happy with the 4-wheel rollator I got a couple of years ago. I checked the height of the handles and it's OK but I do have neck and back problems and have to keep remembering NOT to lean into the walker as I go along. That may just be an effort some of us have to make--I don't know.
