My Name is Crazy Cat Woman, and I'm a Pill Popper

Prior to 2018, I took ibuprophen, Tylenol PMAirborne if I was exposed to people with colds, and almost every two months, I'd be taking 10 days of penecillin, amoxicillin, or ampicillin for abcessing teeth.

Now, I take 14 presceiption medications!

I got a new one yesterday (#14). Because I'm on Medicare, a health system where 3of my doctors practice does a monthly "Wellness Assessment" call. A nurse asks me if there have been any changes to my various ailments, do I have any provider appointments coming up, can I still dress myself, have I fallen . . . (that one I told her I had, twice, and once was face-first into the pantry door, and the door WASN'T open!) But I did have to tell her about how my GERD has gotten a LOT worse, lately, with my mouth filling with stomach acid (which also went up my nose, last night!) and sometimes undigested food! The 3 Hour Rule ain't working anymore, and the pantaprozole also ain't working anymore either.

About 4 hours later, I get another call frome the same healthcare system, though this time, it is from my primay care doctor's office. The message had gotten through to Dr. ______ and he'd called in a new prescription to my gotta-have-ASAP-pharmacy, rather than my mail-order pharmacy.

So I get to add one more pill to pop in my morning cup of pills . . .

I have become the stereotypical geriatric person who lines every shelf in their medicine cabinet with pill bottles, and under the sink is the package of Depends, compression stockings in the sock drawer, a walker and two canes right by the front door.

Danm getting old sucks!

Isn't' aging fun? I'm always a little embarrassed at my list of medications and supplements, but they keep me going and more comfortable, so I'll keep taking them all.

I didn't even mention all the vitamins and supplements I add to the mix. But, yeah! I think I've become that age my Momma always said was her "Second Childhood". It gave her all kinds of freedome to behave in ways she never could before. So I should dig out Momma's pith helmet, stick my tongue out from under my bottom denture, and just have fun! 😁😁😁😁

Oh! I just realized I'm already the age she was when she did all that! I'm 53, will be 54 in January--and Momma only lived to 58! I better get busy!

I am sorry you lost your mom so young. Mine passed this past July at 98. But you're a young pup still. I am 61.

I’m sorry, that sounds miserable. Did your teeth get sorted out or removed?

I got every single one of those suckers extracted. So just like my Momma, I no longer have a natural tooth left in my head, a full set of dentures, and I've never been happier! I was just late in doing so. Momma had her teeth extracted a month after I was born and she was 36. I had to wait until I was 51. I'd taken antibiotics for so long, I developed an allergy to anything with a cillin on the end of its name.

Just the opposite of me. I am fighting to keep mine. I had one break vertically and had to come out early in the year. I've had my sinuses lifted surgically and a post implanted. Next it the tooth being put on. Implants take a very long time and are so expensive! But it will act as a natural tooth.

Having inherited my mother's teeth, every one of them were rotting from the inside out, so they were constantly breaking off which would turn my tongue into hamburger. Then the swelling and throbbing. Could never eat or drink anything cold or hot. Didn't have a single one strong enough to build anything on. Never considered implants. How are those for you with brain MRIs?

I asked when I got my last MRI. The metal used is titanium so it doesn't mess with the MRI. It was quite the process getting it done. Actually I'm still not done as the tooth portion is being set in January!

Why do they call getting old the 'golden' years, CrazyCatWom ? Youth is wasted on the young! :-D

I here that getting old sucks, but is better than the alternative I think. Have you looked at alternative solutions to your pill popping or would you rather just pill pop? No judgement anywhere just asking .
