Summer Time! Hot!

We have MS! And the heat is not our friend! 😭 So we fill our freezer with ice packs, and our fridge with neck wraps, and name our AC's!!🀣

But we still need to watch out for this!

Heat Exhaustion.

Heat exhaustion is a condition whose symptoms may include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, a result of your body overheating. It's one of three heat-related syndromes, with heat cramps being the mildest and heatstroke being the most severe.

So? We need to WATCH FOR THIS!

1... Cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat!

2... Heavy Sweating

3... Faintness

4... Dizziness

5... Fatigue

6... Weak, rapid pulse

7... Low blood pressure when standing!

8... MUSCLE CRAMPS

9... NAUSEA

10. HEADACHE

If YOU Or Anyone Has Has these, the best thing to do is,

Stop all activity and rest

Move to a cooler place

Drink cool water or sports drinks

**Contact your doctor if your signs or symptoms worsen or if they don't improve within one hour. If you are with someone showing signs of heat exhaustion, seek immediate medical attention if he or she becomes confused or agitated, loses consciousness, or is unable to drink. You will need immediate cooling and urgent medical attention if your core body temperature (measured by a rectal thermometer) reaches 104 F (40 C) or higher.**

And those ice packs do come in handy. Several days ago, there was another (!!!) large black snake unwilling to move out of a hen nest. I was not going to reach into a cramped space to pull out an active snake so I left it there. All night I pondered how to get it out and was inspired the next morning to take my grabber tongs and ice packs to the coop. I used the tongs to place ice packs on top of the snake. By the time a neighbor arrived with gloves to pull the snake out, that snake was chill. So...ice packs are our friend in more ways than one!

I wasn't sure if it would work, but while the blacksnakes are digesting a meal, they really don't want to move. In the several hours the ice packs were on top of this one, it became chilled, so didn't put up resistance when my neighbor grabbed it. I hope this doesn't have to be repeated, but it's another trick on my snake removal list. I don't want to kill them, but I also don't want to buy chicken feed for the snakes!
