Brain Fog, Cog Fog, Brain Fa*t. No matter what you call it, pretty sure you have had it. Ohh it's horrible πŸ˜” at not so oportun times. It can be pretty funny if you let it tho!

Lately, my favorite fill in words are, ummm, yeaa, nope and that. You figure it.πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ I don't care what it's about! Ummm, yeaa, nope. That.

What are your favorite fill in words, when you forget? I know you have them! 🀣

I was hit especially hard cognitively, so it's been life changing, and I have the pain of remembering my "old self". When I forget a word, which if often, I may google the word if there's time, or describe the word as best as I can by its characterization. Like, "it's that red, shiny fruit that keeps the doctor away". 'Oh, apple, you mean! My methods of communicating are shrinking; it's hard to type, read, talk clearly, etc. It used to be such a strength I had. Very humbling!

I'm sure it's a struggle for you Hidden . And Google can be a life saver for sure!

I'm glad you found a way to help you work through this. As frustrating as it is.☺️ Do you play memory games at all? πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

in reply to Jesmcd2

yes, I have a few games I challenge myself with, listen to audio books, play piano, color...everything I can get my hands on!

That has been one of the most frustrating parts of MS. I have one friend who really understands, so she's very patient during our conversations when I have a lapse of concentration, or when I say, "give me a minute" over and over while I search for a word. With other people, I find I tend to avoid talking much when the fog is at its worst.

I hate it when I can't follow instructions, as when reading a quilt pattern. I'm afraid I have to give up for a while until things make sense again. I'd like to say I am patient with myself, but I still find myself in tears at times.

I can understand your pain greaterexp reading directions, and complicated ones at that? πŸ™ Read 3-4 times at least! And then again! πŸ˜“ When before, it was sew easy.πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

I deal with that a lot sometimes it really stinks. Good thing is I can make people laugh.

When it happens...if anybody’s near by I quickly stop and all of a sudden say β€œI’ll get back to that later”. 😜😎

Then move on like nothing happened. Lol

Yes...I admit...there’s a little pride going on. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I stop and make the wait gesture with my hand, or I ask if I am making sense.

Wait, you don't point at ppl and say wait a min do you kdali πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ you could lose a finger that way.πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

kdali profile image
kdali in reply to Jesmcd2

No, I hold up a finger (by my face, not in the danger zone) and smile, say wait...maybe a nod or grimace if it’s taking a bit. I hate fillers, they sound like scratching a chalk board to me. I feel like the person word searching also gets hung up on the filler word and loses track more easily or becomes frustrated at sounding β€œlike an idiot”. Sometimes I will sound the letter of the word I’m trying to say if I know the person I’m talking with can help me...then it’s like a game and I gesture for them to guess and high five if they get it right πŸ˜‚

I also don’t talk to people if possible πŸ™ƒ

The fog sucks, but I tend to say β€œI know what I was talking about I really do”. Mid conversation I tend to forget the last part.

Guacamole, dishwasher, garbage can, and garage. When my brain is done it slips one of those words in! Good thing my boys are good interpreters!

I tend to combine two words to make a new one. Sometimes, the new words make sense.

Cog fog is frustrating when I cannot do what I once could do without thinking! I always struggle to find the words and I often use the French word for it or the English one but now I have trouble finding the word in any language. Keep Smiling :-D

Jesmcd2 profile image
Jesmcd2CommunityAmbassador in reply to carolek572

That could be confusing eh? πŸ˜‰ I'm sure finding the right words in any language is frustrating carolek572 let alone 2 πŸ™ but you can always stop with the French Canadian eh? 🀣 Then you only have to worry about one! πŸ˜‚πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

My family has learned to play that game (lmho- can’t remember the name of it!), you know, where you act out each word? It’s become common place with me and we getting good at!

agapepilgrim profile image

It’s hilarious the word that pops out instead of the right one! Frank just acts like the right one was said. I say, wait I just said something stupid. His response, yes, I know, but I knew what you meant (well, most of the time he does🀣
