I have a front and back yard. They have to be mowed. (I bought a weed eater for mother's day and do that myself.)
I can't now the yards. 2back and a neck surgery, feet braces. Just no. Can't do it.
The last time my dad did it, he sat down and I thought he was going to have a heart attack! Took him about 5mins before he could catch his breath. He's 77 yrs old. He's not doing it again.
So I found some one to do it. And asked my brother to help pay for it. Cause I'm always broke. And he makes booko bucks. He actually said I could mow the front one day and the back another day. Are you kidding me right now? I still haven't heard back from him. Grrrr.
I mean is it wrong to ask him for help? So my dad isn't doing it?

He obviously doesn’t “get “ MS. I’m grateful my husband usually does it. If I have to, I have to mow a little, rest and cool down, mow a little more, etc. and then pay for it the next day or two.
I wonder if there are any local groups who do that sort of thing. Churches, Scouts, or others? I’ve never checked into that.
That's unfortunate, Jesmcd2 If you cannot count on your family, then who can you really count on? Is there someone that you know that you can borrow their riding lawnmower? Just asking because that's the only way that I would mow any lawn...
I'm sorry your neighbors don't talk to each other. I belong to an online group for our neighborhood that is called nextdoor.com/ and I see people alwasy looking for people to mow their lawns and people give recommendations and others say they can do it or give an estimate. Worth checking out.
Sorry about your brother, too. Both of my parents have passed, and he's my only "family" yet lives several states away. I struggle to keep living in our family home (I pay for everything too). Yep, he's loaded too. But, he doesn't get "it" either.
I simply wanted to talk sometime this weekend as I've been having a hard time coping lately, and he said "its not fair to pass your stress and anxieties" along to other people. Get a grip he types in all caps! He shut that down quickly!
Family=you can't live with them and you can't live without 'em! Unfortunately, I too feel your pain.

My dad is 93 and he insisted on mowing his own lawn and doing chores around his house. As much as I dislike my sister I was happy wen he sold his house and moves in with her.
Wen the real estate market crashed and I was almost homeless - my big time attorney brother who makes bank wanted me to look over his paperwork for his million dollar house to make sure it was ok.
I have 3 siblings and they all suck.

I wouldn’t give it another thought about your brother contacting you. Even if you were healthy he was rude and knowing you have MS insensitive & selfish. As for mowing your lawn you might contact a (your) Church for assistance; Boy Scouts; your City Chambers of Commerce. Don’t worry about paying but be upfront about it
are there any senior groups around they could probably help you with a list of young people that volunteer for that sort of thing and grocery shopping,picking up meds and etc.with no charge even though you aren't a senior or a local ms group might have a list of voulunteers.and that brother,I really hope he NEVER gets down and out.
Okay, MSAA may have something similar. but I do know National MS Society does help we MSers with things like mowing, yard work. Contact your local chapter.
You are never wrong asking for help. You didn't ask for this disease that tries to suck the life right out of you. Shame on your brother to be so insensitive to you and your Dad. I would hope he doesn't ever need help because I am a true believer of reaping what you sow.
Cutting the lawn used to take me several days. It was all I could do. I hated it. The only thing that kept me going was not having to pay someone to cut it. By the time I finished, it seemed like it was time to start all over. And I had a power driven walk behind mower! I was always happy when the lawn went brown from the summer heat. Water the lawn? Are you nuts? That was my salvation!
Okay, I used to live in El Paso TX where I had a beautiful tiff green putting green lawn, with automatic sprinklers! But that was before M.S. I traveled back a couple decades later. The grass was all gone!?!? Yes the trend was all about conserving water starting when I lived there. It is the desert? So a gravel or rock lawn may be an option? Or simply sand with a couple cacti? Can't grow cacti where you live? How about plastic cacti? Have your yard look like you live in the southwest!!!
