Coronavirus, family, MS, anxiety

Hi. I've had secondary MS since 1989, probably. I'm in my early 60s. I share an apt with my 90+-old father. We cannot be near each other. He's in his room watching tv, I'm in mine. I am so frightened for him. My aide comes once weekly. New rules where I live say she has to prove she hasn't got a fever and wear a mask. How does she prove that? If she has a fever how do I send her home knowing she's sick? How do I protect my dad, my aide, myself? Are you all going through this crazy labyrinth of anxiety too? Thanks for letting me get this out of my system.

yes,I also have a 90 year old father,but he doesn't live with me.he lives in assisted living and and he has his own apt.They haven't let them out of there rooms the dining room is closed,they are delivering food to your apt.they are letting them go outside with groups of 5 6 ft apart.They do make alot of decision for him,he told me he lives in a carpeted prison!poor dear,no visitors either

They must be going nuts, no visitors. Sigh. They should at least let them take walks at 6 - foot distances for fresh air & exercise.

It's a minefield, isn't it?! Blasted diseases all a waste! God bless and stay as safe as you can. Here, we have been told a distance of 6.5 feet or 2 metres - I am hopeless at estimating distance!! ☺

Right, how to measure distance? Do we try spreading out our arms, the wingspan, while we walk (I'd fall doing that! And am nowhere near 6.5 feet tall.)

Me neither. Maybe imagine yourself plus the extra height if you were 6'6"?who knows?! 😞

I'm sorry for you and your dad and for everyone going through this. I have an older sister who live in Illinois. They are on practical lock down there, but she has been very ill, was in the hospital when all this started, was transferred to a nursing home and then, too quickly, was sent home. She's had two falls because of extreme weakness, but can't get anyone to help her because of this virus. She was taken by ambulance to the ER yesterday, but shipped right back home.

This is such a hard time right now. I'm so glad we can vent to one another here.

i am so sorry for the situation because of this terrible virus ...sure can't wait for it to end before it does all of us in ....cabin fever is the pits...still take care and hopefully someone keeps you in the loop of what is going on all around you ....

As for your aide having a fever she needs a thermometer to carry with her so she can take her temp when ever it is questioned. I have started to carry one with me as I have a cough from my asthma so if I am questioned I can prove I don't have a fever!! That's the best I can do. I have to get out some or go crazy. I am praying for everyone with this pandemic going on. God bless everyone. Mary

You can go out if possible, for exercise and fresh air? Staying distant from everyone? Pouring where I am anyway.

I do miss smiles instead of masks...everyones temp is different than someone elses and I want the roof off...but id get bird dodo on the face!Things will change,,for sure.

I have forhead themom at the door...people dont like it..too bad.I havent had a no yet.Can you call the employer of the home nurse and ask if they are vacinated and checked thier temp before they come?Or say you will check it for them? I had covid before they originally announced it.NEVER want it again.Im vacinated now but still get tests and protect others also.There is an 18 month old here that grandma sat, very ill,not vacinated...Just say NO?

Thanks, almost forgot i wrote this it was so long ago. Hope you are feeling better now. The mayor of my city has now put into effect a law requiring all health care workers be vaccinated. Hoping this will apply to home health aides too. No matter what as we are both vaccinated I will keep masked when I go near her. And thanks yes I will call the agency tomorrow to ask what their policy is. Must have her in no matter what though. It is harder & harder to find anyone to do this sort of work anymore. They are frightened to, and barely get paid for what they ddo. No union, not really. Pay their own way here & back. Living on the edge, most all the aides I've had over the years. Anyway, best.
