Does anyone get vaccinated?

Have any side effects presented?

Physician is suggesting I vaccinate however I’m hesitant.

After seeing what shingles and pneumonia can do do to healthy people, let alone those of us with MS, I got vaccinated against both of them and the flu with my doctor’s encouragement. Live viruses are to be avoided. If you take a DMT like Ocrevus, the timing may be adjusted so you get more benefit from the vaccines.

Be sure to discuss this with your neurologist. I also talked it over with my PCP before making the decision.

I always get my flu shot. And when I'm old enough and it's back in stock, I will be definately getting the others after seeing my grandpa go through the shingles recently. He is just getting over it now and this started last year

I'm not old enough to get those vaccinations yet. But I get the flu shot every year. I've had pneumonia before right along with frostbite long before getting MS. They're no fun at all. I highly recommend not getting either frostbite or pneumonia. If there is a vaccine get it if your neurologist and pcp agree that they should keep you as healthy as you can be.

I have not been given DMTs so interactions with them may not apply to you but every decade or so I get a booster for DPT, have had no reaction to the first shingles vaccine, and both pneumonia as well as annual flu vaccines (just not high dose for seniors because I did have an adverse reaction to that). Ten years ago I was diagnosed with RRMS.

oh yes,I have done flu,pneumoccocal,and shingles.the only one you have to worry? about is shingles,it is a live virus,we are not suppose to have live viruses but medical field ok's shingles shot.you have to have it to take ocrevus and maybe other drugs.you are suppose to do the 6 weeks out either way,before or after.I had the pheum. and shingles the same day.and they still test me once a year before my orcrevus to make sure it is still active.good luck

Shingrix is not a live vaccine. Drs are always careful not to give a live vaccine. I received Shingrix last year. Had two bouts of shingles in the last ten years. I’m 55.

I don't do the flu shot anymore after a couple of doctors told me not to, and one outright laughed when she was asked about the flu shot.

I have had all of them, and the flu shot inclusive of 4 strains this year. Have never had any kind of reaction from any of them. I'm on Tecfidera, 76 and had pneumonia when about 10 years old. I know a man who had a very bad case of shingles on his face 4 years ago, and he still has them, very painful. Has not found any relief for the pain, he just lives with it. I would not want to live that way, and if a shot can prevent that issue, I recommend you take it too. I have not even had a cold this year and was around 1 case of type B flu in one of my grandchildren over Christmas. Only her brother caught it out of the 10 family members.

Ever since having Guillain Burre (sp?), I heard not to get the flu shot again. Not confirmed and non-health care advice.

I get everything I can. I had shingles years ago and it HURTS! I had the first shot and felt sick all night but was fine in the morning. Knowing that when it came time for the 2nd one I got it on a Friday so I could recover on Saturday. So glad I did! I felt horrible that night and had chills so badly I woke my husband from my shakes! He got up and put a down comforter over me that helped the shakes. It was a rough night but aside from being wrung out the next day I was fine. Knowing what I went through I would still do it again if I had to. Two uncomfortable nights was worth it to avoid shingles which are so painful and lasts a lot longer than 2 nights!

Come to think of it I had a measles booster. I was born in '59 and heard those shots weren't the most effective so I felt a booster was better than measles!

Also note that the claims that many people make about "I had the flu shot and then got the flu" are generally wrong. Usually they were already infected with one of the flu strains and getting sick coincided with getting a shot. In addition, it's generally thought that if a person does get the flu even after being vaccinated the disease course is less severe than if they hadn't been vaccinated. Unless there is a legitimate medical reason for not getting a flu shot then everyone should get one.

It should also be noted that the irresponsible quack who initiated the fallacy that essential childhood vaccinations can cause autism actually retracted his claims, but unfortunately the damage was already done and he's set off a chain reaction of ignorant people across the globe who continue to spread unjustified fears among parents. Social media and the untruthful hype it can generate has a lot to answer for - especially when children die from entirely preventable diseases. Thousands more children/ people have died from preventable diseases than have died from or will ever die from being vaccinated (including the flu).

I’m a firm believer in medical scientific research, vaccines are a wonderful part of what comes from that research. I get vaccinated. Having the disease is much worse than any side effect (IMHO). I’m not trying to stir up a controversial topic for the .0001% of people with a bad story to tell, no offense to anyone with a horrible story. I just think that the eradication of polio was an amazing thing in my lifetime. I thought we got rid of measles here too, until a bunch of people decided not to vaccinate. 28 states had outbreaks!

ARRRRGH! It was unnecessary.

OK, I’m done. Do what you think is right, as long as it’s the right choice. 😊

Those particular diseases are deadly to immunosuppressed people. I have been vaccinated for everything, even some repeats. I turn 50 this year, so the over 50 vaccines will be offered at my physical.

I don't know anyone who had side effects that were serious. I know people who have had shingles and pneumonia. I would not wish those on anyone. If you can prevent them, go for it.

I was told to get the pneumonia vaccine before I got set up to receive Ocrevus infusions, along with a bunch of other tests. I also got the flu shot, which i don’t normally get but because I work with children it was necessary for both my protection and theirs.
