PCP Issues fixed but 😢

Last month I received a letter from my insurance company letting me know that my PCP no longer accepted my insurance. So I went on a hunt for one (tough when your app gives you trouble). I finally found one! Yay! I just had to sign necessary release papers only to find out that that I don’t have to really leave my nurse practitioner... & I didn’t want to leave the nurse practitioner who helped me get in with my neurologist. So I’m going to see how my appointment goes on Monday with this new doctor. Does that sound smart?

It sounds great to be able to stay with the same PA, they would be familiar with you and your chart, which I would think would be helpful with the new doc.😊👍 Let us know how it goes.

Unfortunately, with the Affordable Care Act ("ACA") in place as it is, that's about all you can do. I was still working when the ACA passed, and I had great health insurance. However, I lost my policy due to the ACA, and I had to go shopping on the Florida Exchange (we still lived there then) and I found a policy that cost twice as much as my prior policy for roughly half the coverage. For me, it was more important to keep my neurologists than my PCP, so I lost my PCP. I didn't pick up another because those with names I could pronounce and who had been in practice more than 6 months ( even if I couldn't pronounce their names) were not taking any new patients. I also lost my rheumatologist who had been treating my osteoperosis. One good thing about it, though, was that none of the ACA policies covered my DMT or Acthar Gel which I used for relapses, but because I had commercial insurance, I was able to get financial assistance from the drug manufacturers.

I guess we have have to make do with what what we can find. Sometimes it may take YEARS to find something(one) that works. With imperfect people trying to find solutions, perfect solutions won’t happen, but it’s nice when it works out!

BTW My initial appointment was great! We got along & were on the same page.

She was surprised that I haven’t had a handicap parking tag & had no problem filling out the form for me. That was helpful!
