I just read Fancy1959's post from yesterday "One is silver, One is gold". During the course of the change several of you mentioned being on Ocrevus and taking the shingles vaccine.
My neurologist said I'm not too take vaccines with a live virus such as the shingles vaccine. She indicated that with the way Ocrevus lowers your lymphocyte counts that you'll get the virus your taking the vaccine for. Have any of you been told this?
Yes I was told the same thing by my Neuro last month.
I think the literature on Ocrevus states you should not take any live vaccines, but the new Shingrix vaccine for shingles is not a live vaccine. I'd ask my doctor about that one. I've had both doses since we are considering Ocrevus.
The new shingles shot Shingrix is not a live vaccine and is recommended by neurologist now. I had my first of two shots two months ago and second one is taken 2-6 months after first one 👍. Ken 🐾🐾
My best knowledge, thanks to erash , and the Walgreen pharmacist, where I received the shingrix vaccine on Saturday is:
--Not a live virus
--Works best 4 weeks prior to next Ocrevus infusion
--can take the 2nd part in 6 months, which would make it 4 weeks prior to the next infusion
-- side effects are sore arm and possibly fatigue for 1 to 3 days
I was so glad to finally locate the shingrix vaccine in NC. I've been on a wait list in FL for 6 months. The only side effect for me was the injection site felt like I had been punched in the arm the two days. If I had used the goodrx app, it would have been cheaper than my Medicare advantage plan.
Thank You everyone for the quick response. Neither my PCP or Neurologist have suggested that I get one so I did not know there was a new medication for them.
