my hubby's brother passed away yesterday due to a cat bite.He had a neighbor cat that would slip in the house and he didn't see it so when he was leaving he accidentally locked the cats tail in the door.so he was trying to unlock the door to let the cat out and it bit him severly.he did not go to dr. and the next day it looked infected, but you know how we do "it will be fine",so he passed away with 6 days from septus blood from infection from cat bite.So as ms patients we really do need to more aware and vigilant.sometimes it is all we can do is walk.pay attention please

My ❤️ is breaking for your family. I am one of the lucky ones that survived sepsis years ago. I was told that I was within 48 hours of death when I got to the ER. I also recently had a cat bite from reaching down to pet a neighborhood cat. Luckily,I had a PC visit already scheduled the next day and was given an anti biotic Rx if it became infected. I'm on ocrevus, but thankfully, I was able to fight it off without the antibiotics. I'll never do that again. My sincere sympathy to your family.

septus is rough, who would have thought that about cats, how dangerous their bite is.I researched it cats bite are one of the most dangerous before dogs.Lots of people get blood septus every year from them.keep an eye on the bite!

So sorry for your loss, pamgarner And like your post says, it is bizarre but we all need to be vigilant about taking care of ourselves and to go seek medical attention when something is not right. We need to err on the side of caution with regards to our health. :-D

I'm sorry about what has happened in your family. Sepsis can come from many sources, but we would never think about something as innocent as helping or petting as cat as being a typical source. Thank you for sharing, even in your sorrow.

I agree that the sepus can come from may different sources. On another disease, be extremely careful about using the jacuzzi at the gym. Over 10 yrs ago, I picked up a MRSA infection over 10 years ago thru an open sore. Took over 6 months to rid myself of it.

Hi pamgarner

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for letting us know about how serious a cat bite can be and get to ER asap. I'm allergic to certain outside plants and wasps. I sometimes have to get prednisone for the reaction. Never was like this before MS.

seems like alot of things are out to get us,i blame alot of it on environment,we are using more pesticides and etc,you never heard of cat bites being dangerous, after doing research on the subject,it is more common than you think, never heard of this 20 yrs ago

So very sorry for the loss of your brother. My own brother contracted "blood poisoning" many yrs ago and had the same attitude until he saw the red lines running up his arm and a friend rushed him to hospital. Any animal bite or scratch that draws blood should be cleaned thoroughly and examined by a doctor if it becomes inflamed.. Again, so sorry for your loss. I didn't mean to because I had just explained about that to a friend of mine a couple of days ago. She has huge property & 8 or 9 cats.

I am so sorry about your brother he should have immediately washed the area with soap & warm water then applied disinfectant to the area. Whether it is a strange cat or your own scratch or bite immediately wash the area with warm water & soap then use disinfectant. Think about it this way the cat uses his paws to dig a hole to do his business then cover it up, he walks on his paws where ever he goes in side & out. Watch the area for several days for sign of infection, if there is get to medical help right away. Mary

thank you, it was so pitiful and totally unneccessary for him to pass away.and it was a cat bite, come to find out cat have this deadly bacteria on their teeth that dogs don't have.I guess it helps them kill animals I guess,If he would have gone to the doc next day when it was red and tender.it may not have snowballed out of control.within 4 days he couldn't stand and an ambulance came and got him and passed away with 36 hr at hospital
