My Dog Max and Walking

This is my sweet Labrador dog named Max. He’s 12 years old and will be 13 next month. He is such a loyal companion. When I take him out for a short walk-And I mean “short” for both of us..lol, usually down my street around corner to mailbox. His 78 pound body helps keep me walking steadily, since I walk him on my left side holding onto leash. Then I don’t need my three prong cane for walking. Max is my “live” 4 prong cane and much cuter to boot.

Great cane substitute. True, a cane needs no feeding, but who wants to pet a cane?

nicoly3467 Thank you for putting a sunny smile on my face with this post! Your Max is my idea of the perfect physical therapist! He gets you out and about, not matter how long, how fast, and he is always by your side! I love your steadfastness to sticking to your daily routine. :-D

Hi Carolek572,

Glad my dog post made you smile today. In Arizona where I live for houses-mailboxes are down the street and around corner. I’m still trying to adjust to this from living in CA the majority of my life where my mailbox was on porch. Oh well, gives me a great excuse to take Max out and we both get some exercise. I do it when I’m able to.

When I put my sneakers on, his tail starts wagging, his eyes 👀 look excited, then I ask Max, “do you want to go on a walk and he barks 1-2 times-to answer then I say ok, let’s go”-it’s funny.

Take care, Nikki

what a loyal loving friend, and you can probably count on him daily just to be there,he probably understands he is your cane replacement and watches out for you

nicoly3467 Some years ago, I noticed that when I walk one of my dogs on a leash, my walking is improved, and actually better than if I use a cane or walking stick. I've puzzled over this because my dogs are not especially well trained and I would think they might pull me off balance, but they don't. So I have decided that as happens when I carry something, using the lead as I walk requires different neural pathways, perhaps less affected by MS damage. No matter the reason, it feels so fine to walk with confidence.

He's soaking up the rays. I bet his fur was super warm from that sun! What a handsome dog he is!
