MS diet and colonoscopy

My diet did not agree with today's plan for a colonoscopy. Well, I have MS so I've learned to be flexible and adapt to whatever, so gone are the plans. We will have to reschedule with better prep.

Apparently, healthy diets based on veggie, fruits, nuts (high fiber) make it harder to clean your colon prior to a colonoscopy. So the 2-day prep did not work for me and the doc could not proceed with the exam. I'll need to reschedule and run through a 7 day prep of no fruit, veggie, nut. What am I going to eat?

Did they tell you why those things didnt work, and what you should do next time? Specific foods that were a problem?

fruits, veggies, nuts ... everything with high fiber can get stuck in your track. so, in my case the 2 day prep was not enough.

Maybe I missed something here...what was your two-day prep? Did it not include the usual prescription prep that flushes your system out?

Yes, but in my case, it did not quite flush.

The doctor actually said that it's quite common. For 1 in 6 people, the standard 2 day prep is not good enough.

Ohhh, ok! I thought you were doing a different sort of prep but I understand now. Yes, I’ve heard that sometimes things just don’t clear out well enough. I like kdali’s suggestions below.

It’s not unusual to need to reschedule because the MD can’t see anything. It’s not fun times either and I’m sorry! Were you pooping clear water before your test? I’ve had some patients returned that were pooping clear, it’s amazing what can get stuck.

Do the BRAT diet that week: bananas, rice, apples, toast....or google low residue GI diet, I can’t remember it right now. Eat clear liquids for one more day than you did last time...jello, broth, popsicles.

You could also fast that week, and the sticky black gunk and mucous will def purge with a prep, but you would have to be on top of hydration.

Lots of options, not a lot of fun 😩

Well for someone who's had too many of these already, on my last one just this year, I notice in the prep instructions: AVOID NUTS OR SEEDS. Well, that drew some thinking about what to do regarding my final meal, again. After researching it, I took someone else's idea, actually it seems like all the colonoscopy regulars know this, it's easier to just stop eating altogether. Go on a clear liquid diet, the best being water, for at least 2 days prior to the big day! It even makes the god awful tasting prep's taste good! Really good? Must be the starvation thing....trying to get something, anything out of that thicker than water prep!

I'd add, stop nuts at least 7 days prior. This is what I did and it still did not work for me.
