I am a major proponent of dentists and dental healthcare. I have dental cleanings every 3 months. I made my husband who really disliked dentists realize what they do for our health. He has undergone several major dental treatments first bullied by me. But now he realizes how critical our dental well-being is to our general health.

However, when a couple of years ago, my dental hygienist noticed my gum was bleeding around an old crown placed a long time ago by my former dentist, I decided it was because that old dentist used an inferior material. For some reason, I finally wanted to take care of that crown and replace it this year. Imagine my surprise when I found out the actual tooth had decayed to the point that I needed a root canal, major gum work and a post. Even though the old crown was removed, decay built up two days later.

I don't know how long it's been going on. X-rays don't show what is underneath a crown. But suffice to say, if your gums are bleeding, you've got a problem. I am not a dentist nor is this medical advice. But I know that I was an idiot. Our brains have enough to deal with because of our lesions. We shouldn't add to that something that could be prevented.

So agreed. I was shaking reading your posts and thinking about tooth pain. Tooth pain is some of the worst pain I ever had. It took my current dentist about 5 years to take care of my negligence and replace some of the bad work done before. And it was painful.

I'm now religiously cleaning and flossing. Going to the dentist is a nightmare.

Oh I have to let you know I had fallen hard my tubchair had lost the cab on one of its legs so that made my chair uneven well I fell out of the tub hit the left side of my face in my ROLLATOR chair hard went to the hospital and got a ct scan that was alright. Ok I’m getting to my tooth on the left side of my mouth I was eating chicken and felt something extra in my mouth it was a crown it came loose and I got it and ended up at the dentist. I went in to get my crown glued back on while I was there they took an X-ray of my teeth they found a cavity so that was filled. I also got my teeth cleaned. I have a very good doctor and a great group of people who work there. I am so lucky I went there the dentist said if they hadn’t have taken care of that tooth I would have had to have a root canal. As I was sitting there I was so happy I had dental insurance.

I don’t have any dental insurance, but several years ago I found out the local college has a dentistry school and works on community individuals. I contacted them and they charge accordingly to your income 👍. So I have been going for three years and they give me 70 percent off 😊. It is not the students working on you it is actually a dentist that teaches, it great 👍. This is a great service, so check out your local college 👍🙏😁 Ken 🐾

Great post! It’s an important facet of our overall health and shouldn’t be ignored.

We saw a state representative in our clinic years ago who nearly died of sepsis brought on by aggressive brushing. That was a real eye opener.

I guess I need to invest in an electric one that beeps at you when you’re brushing too hard 😩 I only use soft brushes now.

I started using a soft brush when a dentist told me I was too aggressive with my brushing, but I switched to a Sonic care about 3 years ago. I think it helps do a better job, and I don't seem to feel the need to press so hard.

It happened to me and my gums were fine! I had all my old fillings removed and replaced, and one was like yours. Pricey!!!

Now I’m getting an implant for one I cracked 😭

My family does cleanings 3 times per year. We started because they recommended it when I was pregnant, and I thought, heck, why isn’t this all the time?!!’ Then my mom was recommended for the same due to receding gums.

V just had her first dental hygiene appointment this week! Gotta have a healthy mouth!!

Dental care is very important. I see my dentist 2x a year , floss every day. I see a ms dentist, who cleans my teeth but because I floss and brush my teeth with a fluoride toothpaste my teeth stay relatively clean. 🦋

I was seeing the same dentist/dental practice for the past 30 or so years. I do get regular check ups every 6 months. My dentist just retired and sold his practice last year, so I need to find a new dentist. Dental health is important and should not be ignored.

IFwczs hello and welcome to the chat room since I have not spoken to you before. This is Fancy and I am so glad you have found our family. We promise to provide you with a safe place to ask questions, voice concerns like you just did, and simply speak to others who truly understand what you're going through.

Your had a very timely effect on me since while I was flossing last night I popped off a crown and I have a dentist appointment set up today for 12:15. Small world isn't it. Remember everybody on Medicare, A lot of Medicare plans have a built-in Dental insurance. If your dentist doesn't take any type of insurance shop around because who can afford not to use any insurance you have. We pay enough with our DMT, medical bills, and medicine that any insurance benefits help and I know personally I can't afford to throw them away! I just thought I would remind everyone on Medicare to check their Medicare and see if dental benefits are included in their coverage. Why not use them if you have them! Fancy.

Fancy, nice to meet you. I have been on this forum for quite some time and made, I think, useful posts. They will appear if you click on that circle next to my name. Due to some glitch, they weren't appearing in the daily digest for a while, but are again.

How did your dental appointment go? My dentist now only taking MetLife.
