Just read this today. Have always wondered if patients with MS could or should donate blood:

I read that this morning when I got my email from healthline. 😊❤🌷

Even I read the email article.

Thanks for sharing.

many years before my dx of ms I tried to give blood but they would not take it. I was very perplexed to say the least. I figured I was healthy and all they would say it to see my doctor. At the time I did not have any health insurance and let it go. I never tried to give blood since. I guess I could call them and see if they would now take it.

I was told right after diagnosis, 20 years ago, not to donate blood due to MS. I have had occasional bought of anemia since then and have been on immunosuppressants the last 6 years. Between all of that plus the lack of knowledge about the root cause of MS, I decided not to be a blood donor years ago and nothing since has changed my mind. That’s just me YMMV.

Jessie that is a good article thanks for sharing it. I have wanted to donate a few times & when I checked about donating I was told NO because of the medicine I was on (Tysabri). the reason for donating was a friend from church was in a bad accident & the parents were asking for any & all to donate as it would help the blood bank was low.

Before I knew I had ms, when my daughter was pregnant, I was on standby to give her blood if she need a blood transfusion. Fortunately she didn’t need one. She is a nurse and her thinking was that we share the same blood group and if she needed it whilst pregnant, she knew her baby would get the blood from me, where she knew the history of it. Logical thinking I guess. 2 years later I found out I had ms, and the medication and severe anemia set in, so ow I do not qualify to give blood. This was a good article, Blessings Jimeka 👍

After fully watching the flick, you're assuming the story again Jesmcd2

We need not ask a doctor, again.

We should not donate 'our' blood. 🤐

😜😊

Argh..We cannot add a picture in comment!

Great! Website design and development sucks!😱😡

Didn't assume anything Hidden ☺️ I was a donor a very long time ago when living in Cali. Never had a problem. After breaking my back the second time, and the meds, I just stopped.

As I said, they didn't need my mess. 🤗💕

I had also wondered about this, as well as if having MS would preclude my organs from being donated (I have organ donor checked on my license, My neurologist said blood and organ donation is okay w/MS since it is a neurological disease and therefore is not in blood or tissue or organs. But I would think each person should consult with their doctor and blood center.

MS or not I think I'm still on the banned list. I was stationed in Italy during the mad cow disease outbreak. I also have iron deficiency anemia.

bxrmom 🤔🙄🤷‍♀️ I often wondered about this as I had a long time ago signed up to donate blood, organs, etc. Then about 10 years ago, I had a MRSA infection. 🤷‍♀️Even though it's been that long ago, I can't donate anything but my love💖 and support, which I willingly DO!!! Even most recently when I had a back surgery, then a knee replacement, I received special considerations. Hey, I like a private, quiet room!😊😊
