Ibenmaor wrote that lipoic acid helps with fatigue. Is anyone taking it successfully for gait?

Here is one of the articles (I've only seen it discussed in relation to SPMS):

I began taking it primarily to prevent brain atrophy, but noticed that my gait improved after starting it. I've stayed on it ever since. It's no cure, but I believe it's helping.

IFwczs I am curious about this lipoic acid, so thank you for this timely post. I will be mentioning this to my medical team to see if okay for me.

Keep Smiling,

Carole :-D

I started taking it about about a month or two ago. I think it maybe too early for me to know for sure, however, I feel it is helping a little with my fatigue. I don't know about my gait. I plan to continue to use it. I like the article you posted, thank you. Best wishes for an answer to your question. [for reference carolek572 ]

Thank you. I will let you know if my neuro thinks there are any interactions with Ocrevus.

FYI, I am on Rituxan and don't find any problems with taking it.

So I’ve decided to retry ALA. last time made me nauseated. Does anyone taking lipoic acid have a brand they recommend?

I think one key to tolerating it well is slowly building the dose. I started with 100 mg. I did have some stomach upset, but was determined to see it through. I now take 600 mg. BID and have no issues.

I hope you can tolerate it and that it helps you.

Does your brand come in 100s?

I don’t think I started with that brand because I wanted to start with a low dose. It doesn’t appear they have a low dose, but other brands do. My PCP recommends NOW brand or Jarrow for many supplements. Those brands have lower dosages of alpha lipoid acid.

Haha I ordered the Now brand as that’s the brand I use for my powdered egg whites 😊

IFwczs That is an interesting report, but the Mg dose is 1200, higher than what I have been taking. I have taken 120Mg daily for the last three years. I don't know if it has improved my gait/walking speed, but perhaps if I hadn't been taking this antioxidant a decline would be obvious. So, I'll continue on the theory of can't hurt, may help.

IFwczs Correction: I take 150Mg daily.

I had seen several reports that it might help, so I tried it, and think it does. It is only an anti-oxidant, so it can't really hurt. I'm out now, but will get more when I can. I'm a believer in anti-oxidants, they are micro-nutrients.
