More about Hummingbirds

Back when I had my Hummingbird sanctuary, my former home. I had two get stuck in my garage. I opened all doors but they were frustrated and wouldn't fly low enough. They were repeatedly bouncing off the ceiling. One male and one female. The male finally decided to land on the window sill, allowing me to pick him up and take him to a feeder. As in Jazzyinco experience the little guy finally regained his strength. He took off and hovered a foot or so from my nose, made his little click like "chirps" as if to thank me and flew off. Please don'k ask about the second because, well, ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ I wish I could post Mutiple pictures cause I have a lot of pictures of them. They happen to be one of my favorite things.

Shona68 if you have the opportunity on you holiday,

Chichen Itza, Mexico

Moving south, we finally get to the heart of hummingbird habitat: the Yucatan peninsula. Many hummingbird species that can be spotted in the United States winter and breed here, and one of the best places to find them is Chichen Itza. This landscape of jungles and Mayan ruins is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site, it's also prime hummer territory. Eco-tourists know Chichen Itza as a haven to a variety of wildlife; it's home to at least nine species of hummingbird that have as much relevance to local human history as to local ecology.

By the way, I've always wanted to visit Scotland! I hope you have the opportunity. By the way, they are attracted to the color red!

GREAT picture Allen!!!! I love humming birds. When they fly close almost sounds like a bee. Here Las Vegas Nevada, we now have them here year round and I get to see the new generations. Thank you for sharing your beautiful picture. Blessings Cynthia

Yeah they have a buzz (hum) to their wings. I always have said when they get flying close to you it sounds like a Star Wars lightsaber! LOL I think it's where the movie sound idea came from! ๐Ÿ˜‚

One of those life experiences that just stick with me. They really start to get accostom to a person when they are watching you take care of their food source. I have been where I was changing out the feed and they would be buzzing around me trying to get to it before I had it even hung. Another surreal experience with them was on several occasions they fly so close, passing by, I could feel the brush of wingtip on my nose. That happend a few times. ๐Ÿ˜ some of those, oh wow moments.

It was a bit bitter sweet for I was unable to save them both. As for the picture, humming bird in one hand, smartphone in the other. This would have been in 2011. The black brace on my wrist was because I was having severe pain in my wrist a few weeks following laying my Harley down in my driveway. Bike wasn't hurt! I had to put some pressure on my wrist but the weird thing was it didn't start hurting until a couple weeks after it happened. I saw my former orthopedic surgeon who did my follow up surgeries and recovery after my accident in 2000. He is also a pilot and friend. Throught out trying to figure what was going on in my wrist, xrays, nerve tests etc. Never really did put a definate on it, ended up throwing in a zpack and it seemed to get better. Well, now we know what was going on but then it was a bit odd.

I'm not so sure it's necessarily a good thing at times, it tends to get me into trouble. LOL, all the scars on it kind of have it withdrawn. It's my own fault for putting it out there so.... anyhow, snakes, snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of! ๐Ÿคฃ well in this case Hummingbirds too!

We had one get stuck in the garage at our last house. It finally exhausted itself and landed and was still. We carried it gently outside and set it down, waited and watched. It regained it's strength and flew away. Loved it!

We love the sweet little hummers. We have 2 feeders just out side the kitchen window and a feeder in the back. They come right up to the kitchen window, look in, wave a wing then eat, eat, eat!

BY THE WAY!!! Don't allow Praying Mantis near them, The bigger mantis will catch, kill and eat the precious Hummingbirds!
