Don’t wait to call for help

I sure hope everything goes well for you. I had my court date for Disability on 5/3 and I'm still waiting for the answer. 🤷‍♀️🦋. I haven't worked since November 2014.

Update: I fell in the shower last Monday morning and couldn't get up! That was the scariest feeling I ever experienced!!! Being on the ground for 4 hours.

We finally called 911 for help. They took me to the hospital for evaluation. I now have 2 sprained ankles and lots of pain in my knees and various places and bruises.

I will never wait that long to get help. We had a shower chair, but I slipped standing up. Since then we now have handicap grips and my husband sits close by when I take a shower. Plus I need to get a new shower chair 😢. Mine is kind of rickety.

I’m sad that happened to you. It must have felt awful, even with family there to be with you. I hope you get over your aches and pains quickly.

Thanks for the reminder about having good safety equipment, especially in our bathroom.

Smart idea to have someone home when you shower or 🛀. Things can happen as you well know. Hope you heal soon. 👍🙏🐾😉. Ken

Oh that is my fear do get the shower chair with a back so if you need sit back or if you feel like your falling backwards you have something to catch you. And do you have those bath mats that have suction cups. And I don’t want to sound like a know it all but this is something that happened to me in the shower. I had a full bottle of body wash that had fallen on my foot while I was taking a shower it took all my strength to stay standing I had my chair but I knew if I sat down I would have been to far away from the grab bar to reach it

So I finally could move and go my chair closer but I needed to stand so I grabbed another grab bar that has the suction cups well that one One of the sides released but I was fast and grabbed the bar that comes with the shower but I also have heard those are not made for grabbing they can fall apart. But I finally got out of the shower come to find out I just had a bad pain full Bruise on my foot.

Do you have one of those safety call buttons i do and I called my town firedepartment to put in a lock box the only one that has a key is the fire and rescue department. I did call it once but while on the speaker I got control over my legs and I sat down on my rollator. Sorry 😐 for speaking so long. I just want you too be safe.

Please be safe I have to let you know I have a hard time getting my right leg out of the tub but I have learnt a way to do it iuse my bath towel and put it under my knee to pull it up and out.

Oh one more thing I put my night gown on my rollator just in case I need some one to help me I can put it on fast.

Be safe

Good idea. I will use that one. I got dressed on the floor before the firemen came over. I had to direct my husband where everything was located. 😉

It’s awful falling in the shower,it happens before you know it, like slipping on the ice. I found the indignity of being found naked was worse than the pain of falling. You would think after having had 3 children it wouldn’t bother me, but it did. I hope that your ankles heal quick. Blessings Jimeka 🦋 🍫

I have to agree with what Jimena said. I also have to let you know it would be worse for me to be found naked let me tell you why I’ve lived in this town for 25 years and something more embarrassing is that I worked in the school system for 13 years and I know a lot of the first responders. Let me tell you it wouldn’t be a pretty sight

Cathy L82 + ssdw1958 Your stories of falling resonates with each of us here. We all know how suddenly a slip can occur, and how frightening each fall can be despite our best precautions. How scary it is to be down and unable to rise! I am relieved to hear that you had no serious damage 'though I have to smile at how human we remain. CathyL82, ssdw1958, jimeka, I and probably most of us can accept the fact that we may fall again, but being found naked is a terrifying prospect which I too share!

Reading this means so much to me. Thank you 😊

I totally understand that is why we didn’t call 911 for 4 hours after the fall. I got dressed on the floor first. I got my priorities.

Yes 2 Firemen picked me up with such ease and they said they would have put a towel on me if I was naked. Thank goodness 😅 that visual didn’t take place.

Glad you are ok, so to speak, & unfortunately it could have been a lot worse. A couple at my church was on a trip for their 70th wedding anniversary party and he fell in the shower, hit his head & was knocked out briefly. Spent 2 days in the hospital. And missed the party that their daughter had arranged for them! Taking a shower is scary with wobbly, unstable legs. I never take a shower if I'm by myself & I always tell my husband I am getting in the shower, we both tell each other because we are both wobbly & unstable. Keeping your rollator, I call it my rollychair, next to the shower is a good idea. Praying that you heal soon.

Check into a "shower bench". The kindthat has two legs outside of tub, Allows you to sit down then put legs inside You can also shower while sitted with a hand0-held

My husband has had me start leaving the bathroom door open when I get in the shower so he can hear in case I need him - I fell once and he didn't hear me calling for him. I've learned what safety measures I've needed the most after I've fallen unfortunately. Hope your injuries heal quickly. And good luck on your disability. Hope you get an approval soon.

Tub grips are essential also...you know the type you stick to floor of your shower!

Be careful of the hand grips that are suckshone cups that are adjustable they can loose there suction and can come loose. My PT told me to readjust them every once in awhile to reset

Hope you are ok and feeling better. Thank God for support. So glad they are installing hand grips. I have in shower and a hand rail when I am getting out. It is necessary for us to have safety equipment, We benefit in the long run.
