Isolation impact on MS

All people who have caretakers or even someone who really cares have been extremely blessed. Unfortunately, as the youngest child by 15 years plus, no extended family to help. Both of my parents were and are ( Mom is 102 years old, my Dad is deceased) only children, thus no cousins or extended family. Originally from Chicago, Il, the crime catapulted me to Texas on the heels of a home invasion. Texas is too hot for MS patients and I find myself not meeting new people, while the temperature keeps me indoors from May through September. Then there are the floods and hurricanes, which have impacted me severely. Lost all in Houston flood 2015. My auto was destroyed, hence, with my expenses keep me from buying a new car.

Well enough gloom and doom. Praying that all who read this will count their blessing with a new appreciation.

I am truly sorry to hear of your difficulties. Isolation can be a huge problem for us. I have to force myself to venture out into the world. I enjoy my own company, but we really should all have some socialization from time to time. In my new upcoming post-divorce life, one of the things I hope to do is sit in classes at the University of Utah. I won’t get credits of course, but will enjoy all the history, literature and art history classes. Most colleges allow people to do this. Exciting! Thank you for the reminder of my many blessings. I do wish you had more support where you are.

I know it's not quite the same, but this wonderful group of people has been a godsend to me, especially during the early months after my diagnosis. They really understood my thoughts, fear, questions, and roller coaster emotions well. Though I do have a marvelous family, I come here to vent so I don't overwhelm my bewildered family.

I live in a suburb of Houston and do not venture out during that time either. Lived in Northwest Indiana for a time and the cold was worse than heat on my MS. Sorry you were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. There are good support groups around. What area of Houston?
