You are newly diagnosed with a lifelong chronic illness. You have a lot to do to prepare yourself and I am sorry to say you should have started yesterday.

First off I suggest a good long cry, mine took a few years. but in-between the tears you need to start taking a Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT). This is VERY VERY important. If your neurologist waffles, fire him and get a new one.

Cry some more, just bawl and get it out so that you can start down your path.

You are not going to die and you do not always have to be in a wheelchair, IF you do nothing things may not be so easy.

It is time to start changing bending, becoming flexible in what you do and how you do it. There is usually more than 1 way to get to a goal just start looking and seeing ofher possibilities. They are out there you, may just have to take a fourth & fifth look at things.

Now something that has been on my mind all morning is WORDS. Yes WORDS, how about you start thinking about your WORDS. Try to start saying things that do not mean huge pain, insurmountable and, impossible. Maybe just challenging.

What WE are doing, is putting you back into an ICAN I WILL I DO mindset. I am sure somebody has trademarked that statement so I apologize . ms is terrible, no ms is annoying no ms is inconvenient ms is just another obstacle I have to get around. Do you see the picture, hear my words, feel me. All the same meaning just put different ways, CHOOSE your WORDS wisely.

We are all in this cage that is ms, but how we look at it, how we choose to face it will determine wether we are in SHAWSHANK or is a nice plush country club resort. I know which one I will be in, their is room for you, so get off the bus and lets relax awhile.

Easy for you say Royce not everyone has the same experience as you. i was hit with MS overnight and severely disabled right off the bat. My whole body was paralyzed and I lost my speech and my ability to write with my dominant hand too. One day I was running a dog rescue and the next day I was in the hospital for 2 months trying to learn to walk with a walker and trying my best to speak again. Ever been in the hospital not being able to speak?

No my hospital dtsyd have been due to drug overdoses. I guesss we all have own burdens, but well done through coming out the other end of the grinder in one if not bruised piece.

I was so sick before my diagnosis if my sister would have let me lay down in that nursing home the doctors sent me to, I'd be dead today. My entire left side and both legs were completely numb. I couldn't swallow and lost 50 pounds in a month. The medical community in North Carolina, New Bern specifically, thought all I wanted was pain pills and just ignored me. My son had to take me to Chicago to get treatment. When I heard that doctor finally say that I had MS, I was so relieved it wasn't cancer or something worse that I never worried about it again. Seven months later, I could walk with a walker and swallow things like mashed potatoes. I just take it one day at a time and try to enjoy life. What else can a body do?
