What brings you comfort?

There are many days I struggle to move and don't want to do anything. But, I find if I go out in the shade on our deck and watch the birds, I feel so much better. We have blue jays, bluebirds, indigo buntings, gold finches, house finches, chickadees, nuthatches, cowbirds, mourning dove, titmouse, Carolina wren, thrasher, sparrows, red bellied wood peckers, Hawks, Falcons, cardinals... I absolutely love watching them along with the chipmunks and squirrels. Nature is so awesome.

TB It's hard to find comfort much anymore. My legs are getting very stiff and sore in the joints. My shoulders hurt and I seem to keep a headache. I've been diagnosed with MS since 2003 and nothing seems to be getting much better at all. I'll look for serenity in my yard to see if that helps me, too. Have a great day.

You are right. Comfort may be a bad choice of words. Serenity would be a much better description. You and I seem to be in about the same place. What's the saying? Something like, "If I woke up and didn't have any pain, I would think I had died!" That's true, too! Best wishes...

I have found some relief from my pain by getting an adjustable bed. I never thought it would help but my sister talked me into it. My pain level has now gone from a 10+ to a 5 or 6 most days. Sometimes even lower. I got one where the head and the foot raise. It has helped so much with the pain and with my swallowing issues. It was worth every penny I put into it! You might think about giving it a try. It couldn't hurt.

Wow, that is great. I would love to have something like that. Thank you for sharing.

To have all those different types of birds to enjoy, wow what a blessing. Every cloud has a silver lining. Here In the uk I have robins, thrushes, blue tit, swallows, wood pigeons, turtle doves, black birds and pesky starlings. I just wish we had the weather to be able to sit out, all it does is rain. Enjoy your birds 🦅

I totally agree - it always picks me up to go outside.

I love to sit on my front porch in my rocking chair and either read a book or just enjoy the beauty of the forest/pond across my road. I love that I don’t have neighbors.

I also enjoy in-depth Bible studies and I re-write/copy meaningful sentences and phrases by the authors into a journal.

I do that, too! I copy things onto my iPad anyway. Not a journal. Sometimes they make it to Twitter. I love reflecting on things like that. Ooh, I can imagine a forest and pond but I don't have that! That's what I need on my deck...a rocking chair! Anybody in particular you like to read? Enjoy! Life is good.

Priscilla Shirer is my favorite. But Lauren Conrad’s “Steadfast Love” is what I completed while going through this diagnosis and it was spot.on. for this time /journey in my life.

I sort of miss our farm and ponds and gardens, but we were always working too hard to really enjoy them! My darling husband just built me a couple of raised beds in which I just planted some tomatoes and some seeds. It was so therapeutic to feel that soil in my hands. He's made it very easy to me to conserve energy, so it's "low impact" gardening, and we'll still have some fresh produce. Watching things grow brings a sense of serenity and hope. Quilting does much the same for me.

I'm so glad you have such a large variety of birds! Aren't they marvelous?

Yum! A nice vegetable garden would be wonderful. How nice. Enjoy!

The best part is the farm and pond across the road is someone else’s; we just get to enjoy it!!! We are so blessed.

I also love to watch our birds. I try to keep a camera nearby and have posted many bird pictures to this site.

Awesome! I'm going to go try to find them. I love seeing pictures. I don't have a camera other than on this old iPad mini and I haven't been able to capture any clear ones of critters. I tried using my husband's phone thinking it might be better but it's not great, either. Please keep sharing. Thanks!

Yes, one day at a time is all we can do. I've heard goldendoodles are wonderful. Mine was a golden and he was the sweetest baby in the world. An awful big lap dog, too!

I agree nature is awesome. I find joy in the flowers outside my windows. Our cherry tree is absolutely stunning this time of year. I love taking my camera outside with me to photograph the flowers and wildlife...on dreary days in the fall and winter I refer back to them. Hope that today is a good one for you.

Tinker-Belle I would love to have all those birds in my backyard. But we have a bear that appears around this time each year, and the bird feeders must get put away or they'll be destoyed!!

Oh goodness. I'd say so. I'd love to see a bear, too, as long as it was at a safe distance!

Hi: I’m with you about watching the birds. We feed them, just today we got Orioles now just waiting for hummingbirds. Sitting out on my deck with music playing just for a bit depending on the humidity. Good book also

I'm also calmed the same way. I even had my husband put in a bird feeder, a bath and a humming bird feeder. We don't have as many beautiful birds as you, but the sounds are wonderful! Thank you for sharing your story!

That is nice. They are so much fun to watch. Our goldfinches seem to have moved on now. We must just be part of their migratory path. Our most faithful birds are Cardinals and Doves. Enjoy.

Wish I had a few small birds around here, unfortunately all eaten by the bigger birds and they don't sing lovely songs.
