Funny Thoughts about my disease

Just wanted to post a little thought about MS awareness month, when first diagnosed I would get upset because people didn't recognize my difficulty with walking ... now ten years on I get upset because they do!

I know that feeling these people they give you a look like what’s your problem. Didn’t anyone ever tell them it’s not polite to look at other people that way.

Thank you sometimes one really does feel isolated with this stuff good to know some folks actually "get it"

Or I’m in this wheelchair because I like being pushed around NOT

You should see the look I get like I have a disease that’s contagious 😷

I still get that sometimes too but seems like its getting better, maybe a little more public awareness than ten years ago

My balance and dizziness are the most noticable symptoms I have to others. When I tell people it's due to MS I get a weird look with a "You don't look sick". Thank God for that! It's still really irritating. Or "I have a friend with MS and you can't even tell ". I kind of feel like I'm being questioned like it's something to lie about. Bikeguy, I was an endurance cyclist - It was the only sport I've ever been good at. I even raced until about 3-4 years ago and had a couple of crashes due to balance. Now I'm terrified to get back on my bikes. I also ran until my legs started doing weird things. My son does triathlons and I promised we would do one together so I need to make that happen. I'm glad you still get on your bike. That's a great place to be!

Hi Debriley, my riding is not what it used to be, i did bike to the bay for many years, and some years had the " raggeddy-est but fastest team out there" anyway in 2008 i had registered for the ride already, and when i got out of the hospital after steroids there was a message from the ride organizer saying " do you know how many people have been diagnosed with ms just since you signed up for this ride" i said no but i do know that i am one. i dont do organized rides any longer because of my balance issues ( i actually fell on one) highly embarrassing as i had ridden and led rides with many of the cyclists there. Also my foot drop has progressed to the point where i need a brace to keep my foot on the pedal of my recumbent (which is my favorite bike) ill send a pic if i ever get good enough with computer stuff. best wishes, hope you dont give up on riding all together, think it helps! a lot with this ms stuff
