Not going down without a fight.

I woke up one morning in May of 2015 with numbness in my legs and that was the start of a long journey which isn’t over yet, but doesn’t have a sad ending.

All this happened after a stressful evening that kept me up until 3:00AM trying to solve a timing crisis for one of my customers who doesn’t plan very well. My stress level was through the roof which, I thought, was the cause of numb legs.

I Googled numbness to find an answer for my sudden numbness and quickly confirmed that MS could be one of the causes, but I wasn’t going there. In my mind it was stress and soon enough everything would be back to normal.

By Wednesday I was in a hospital emergency room because a local urgent care doctor urged me to go there. He thought I had a stroke. Typical of emergency rooms they took my BP, listened to my heart and told me it wouldn’t be a problem to fly out the next day on a scheduled business trip. Maybe if I wasn’t feeling well after my hospital visit perhaps I should visit my family doctor. Ever hear that? Makes me think I could work in an emergency room. 😬

Off I flew with numb legs, toughing it out, making an appointment for an MRI and my MS journey was just starting.

Dear Midgey, Thanks for your message. I have a mild form RRMS. I still work and take Gilenya daily. I travel worldwide for my job, but am cutting back on the long travel a bit. If any of you in the group travel for business it isn’t really that much fun to do. Cutting back has nothing to do with MS it is just that I don’t enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger.

My case almost seems to be in remittance but I do occasionally feel numbness in my feet. I take Gilenya because my wife would freak out if I didn’t, but I have another regimen that involves relieving my stress level and just trying to be healthier which I will relate to the group in my upcoming posts.

I will be interested to read your comments as well as others in the group as I continue with my own personal journey and experiences.

Welcome to a great site where you may share ideas and support.

I’m afraid many here have had similar difficulties in getting an accurate diagnosis. Though it’s somewhat understandable, given the complexities of this disease, it’s awfully frustrating as the patient.

We are glad you found us.

Welcome, Haptik . I’m sorry you have MS (I assume you eventually were diagnosed). I hope you have a great neurologist who specializes in MS. We’re here to support one another, and look forward to hearing more of your story. 💕

Welcome Haptik... It's a scary thing to wake up with numb legs out of nowhere. Stress is not a friend of MS for sure. It can reek total havoc on your system. Anything you can do to relieve or deal more effectively with stress is a definite step in the right direction.
