The Gratitude Jar

Last year I began keeping a jar full of gratitude. Each day I'd place a note about something I was grateful for.

Things got a bit rough and the year ended with great sadness and the death of my hero, my father. (photo)

But looking back on the gratitude notes today, I see that there were so many things to be grateful for. Many of you are mentioned in my notes, as well as the people and animals I helped with my volunteer work.

I'm keeping a jar again this year (although it's in a digital folder on my computer this time) . No matter how hard life gets, there is much beauty in the world and so much to be grateful for!

erash that is such a wonderful, cherished photo, you both look so happy, it's a keeper, and a moment that you will remember forever. It's not a good time for any daughter to loose their Dad, but as my mum used to say, 'he has only stepped into the next room, so always close by' enjoy the memories Erash. You and your mum are in my thoughts, blessings and a big hug, Jimeka xx🤗 💐 🍫 🙏

erash, what a wonderful idea you have. I will start a jar this year, there is much to be grateful for even though times get tough some time. I like your idea of a folder, I can do that on my pad! Thank you and I love the pic you posted. 😀❤️

Love the photo you and your Dad. Precious forever. It's never easy to lose a cherished parent. We learn to be grateful for all the time we've had with them. The Gratitude Jar Is a great idea and not too late in this year to for any of us to start one. Blessings, Lynn

What an inspired idea! I think you’ll have many of us follow suit. Actively thinking about at least one blessing each day keeps us stronger.

Your wonderful picture made me think of my own incredible father, whom I miss so much. To have had him as my father is something for my gratitude jar.

I'm so sorry for your loss erash ! Love the photo of you and your Dad though. What a lovely memory that must be.

I start each day with writing the two things I must accomplish that day to feel it was a good day. I decided as a New Years resolution that I would add writing something I was grateful for each day too. As you said, those are great reminders of the positives when things are going so well.

erash , that photo is a treasure. Losing parents is a horrific experience, regardless of the fact that that is the normal progression of things (heaven forbid that any of us ever outlives a child) and even when it is expected. I lost my mom to pancreatic CA when she was just turning 70 and I was 45, and my dad to Parkinson's 3 years later. It was too soon, and it would've been too soon no matter when it happened. May your father rest in peace and as I am sure you know there will always be a hole in your heart that won't heal completely, but as time goes on, things will get different. You'll be able to find peace and comfort in the happy memories you shared. I pray that that process happens as quickly for you as possible, and I wish you peace. Sukie427
