Handicap grab bars

For my shower I have a medal grab bar on the side entering the shower, in the shower I have one on the middle of the back wall. This is one is not medal because my shower not one where the wall is attached. So the grab bar I have is the kind you phasin to the wall like suction cups but there is a problem with these they do come off which is very unsafe just wanted to say that I still use mine but I do not put my full weight on them. Oh one more thing I always have a bath mat on the shower floor. If any one else has any thing that they use I would like to hear about them.

Hi sswd1958, I have the grab bars that are held on with the suction cups and have had no trouble with them. I will watch out about how much weight I put on them. I also use a shower chair that I can strap myself into, as I had a tendency to slide off the seat. Do you use anything else in the shower that is helpful?

My son put in a shower head that is on a hose it's a good thing in the way you can rise while your sitting on your chair but beware if you are not careful you can soak the whole bathroom. When you stand and your done with your shower I squirt the seat so that it isn’t slippery, I also try to get any excess water off of the chair so you don’t slide off the chair. when you sit back down so that you can get ready to get out of the tub.

One thing with the hose when it is in the holder becareful not to put your neck in the hose loop it just has happened to me a couple of times. The thing is that I am the right height that my neck goes through the hose line. And you don’t get looped

I am thinking of getting the smaller grab bars

Be safe

mrsmike , my handicapped daughter will slip off of a shower chair also so we got one that tilts backwards a little. She has always stiffened up when excited (think “stiff as a board”). She straightens out, from head to toes, almost as straight as a board. This tends to make her slide off of things.

We had to have straps put on her wheelchair, that come from between her legs and over each thigh, then one goes to the left and one to the right, and buckle at the back. This way she cannot stiffen up and slide under the lap belt, which she has done before when she was in “a mood”.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that there are chairs that tilt back, good to know. As for the wheelchair, I haven't gotten that far yet, I'm hoping and praying I won't.

I think I’m going to get the smaller grab bar the one I have is about 12” long and my shower back is not flat to the service. So I just have to be more careful than usual. So what else is knee with this disease.
