Forgetting you have MS

Today I got in over my head because I forgot I had MS. We have 5 goats. Two are young, Jack and Jill, they will be one in July. The photo of Jack is from when he was just a baby. Lately, he keeps head butting me. It's how goats establish dominance. Well, I won't be dominated by a goat! No way Jack.

When I went into the pen earlier he butted me in the back of the leg. Before I thought, I bent over and grabbed his two legs on the other side and wrestled him to the ground. Then while holding his front legs I put my knee into his neck to pin him down. He starts screaming (not from pain but pride) and I need to keep him pinned until he stops flailing. At which time, I have established dominance. But, I have MS and while he is screaming, my muscles start screaming too. I had to call for rescue by hubby because I was sure not gonna let Jack up while he was still flailing. Once hubby rescued me, I asked him "why didn't you remind me I had MS"? 😜

Hi! I forget sometimes to until I can't join on the fun because of the pain or the fatigue. πŸ˜• But when I look on the bright side at least I'm not paralyzed anymore and I'm home with my family. 😊

Karen-x ,

It's actually kind of fun to forget about the MS, even if we pay a little for it. I kind of miss the circus we had with our two goats. What characters! I do hope you've recovered from your wrestling match!

Wow, I thought I posted a reply to this last night. Guess it vanished, probably I didn't hit submit!

Goats are teal characters, aren't they? I never knew that until we got them. Each has such distinctive personalities. Some shy, some pushy, some comical. I am entertained by them for hours. We didn't really mean to have five and we won't have more! It was all my daughter's idea. And she wants cows, pigs, and horses. But I just can't have anymore animals w the MS. It's too much.

Oh Karenx, the photo is great, and you gave me such a laugh πŸ˜‚ my image of you wrestling with the goat. Wasn't it great for a moment just to be normal again? Hoping you are ok today, blessings Jimeka πŸ¦‹ 🌈 🐐

After hubby rescued me and I'm limping toward the house, he said, you're my hero! Made my day 😁

Karen-X, it's Fancy1959. I understand what you did completely! I do it on a regular basis. My husband gets very upset and mad with me when I overdo it and he has no problem reminding me that I have MS and I need to remember my limitations. Like you, it's hard for me not to do the things I did even a few years ago. Then as if that isn't enough to deal with we never know day to day or sometimes even an hour to hour what we're going to have to deal with when we live with this monster. Thanks for sharing. I hope this resonates with many in the chat room. I know it hit the spot for me. Take care of yourself and thanks for being an active part our extended family. Remember together we are stronger!

I agree with greaterexp , when I need or want to work in the yard (and I am physically able) I forget that I have MS. I pay for it afterwards but if I give up everything it has won. I would rather go ahead (if I can) and do the things that make me happy, that make life enjoyable, even if the blurry eyes, the pain and the muscle cramps set in later and I am very fatigued for a couple of days, or more.

I do not have the walking issues that many of you have, at least not as often, so I can be a bit reckless. I know that if my antics caused my legs to stop functioning or any of the scarier symptoms I might not be so carefree with my health but I have had it for so long that I just will not let it scare me, much, any more.

I could not agree more. I have been through bouts of depression over what I have lost. But I realize cant live that way. I've always been a bit of a dare devil (wanted to be Evel Knievel when I was 11) which has not changed. I need a little recklessness to feel alive!!

I haven't wrestled a goat either, Karen-x , but I did wrestle a tree the other day as I spent over an hour trying to pull its very heavy root ball out of a hole so I could transplant it elsewhere. If my husband had been home (and I wish he had!) I'd have had him do it for me. But since I got it done without too much payback, I'm happy I did it and won the battle! It's those little 'wins' that cheer me on. πŸ’•

I need those little wins too! And if it's wrestling a 100lb goat, I'll take it.

Karen-x that's a pretty fair sized goat. I have some limited experience with goats myself, enough to know that if I tried to wrestle a 100 lb goat today I would most likely come out the loser. Well done!

I look back on the days when I could forget I had MS as the good old days.

I think the choice for the spreadsheet manager is clear; our resident goat wrestler can handle anything we throw at her, don't you think WAshingtongirl and jimeka ?

Ha!!! Spreadsheets used to be my life as a CPA but noooooo way can i do it now. I can't even maintain a family budget anymore.

You all know the spreadsheet is a figment of our imaginations, right? πŸ˜‚ These cognitive deficits make it so hard for me to remember everything about everyone. Let's just say that I am easily confused! And then I forget what I did remember. πŸ™„ A spreadsheet is the answer!! So, any takers out there? Jesmcd2 , jennie62 , greaterexp and I are looking for some help here. We apparently don't have enough marbles between us to to even play at 'let's pretend we're creating a spreadsheet.' Ha!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Karen-x in reply to WAshingtongirl

Well, here is my take....since the spreadsheet is a figment, it's perfect!!!! No need for help, you got it covered. 😘

I'll come to you when I have questions. I can't fool myself, saying I know the answers when I don't πŸ˜‰ I think we ought to dub you the Spreadsheet Queen! πŸ‘Έ

Love the picture of Jack Karen-x 😊 reminds me of goat we had as a kid. We used to tie the wagon to him and he would pull us around. They are super strong! I don't know how you wrestled one!!! Good job Spreadsheet Woman! πŸ˜πŸ“

Not that it's good that you had to be rescued, but how great it is to have a few moments of forgetting the MS Monster. I love it when I go shopping or relaxing with a friend and I can forget MS for a while. It's always better when I am up, walking & visiting. I would love to see your goats. I know I was meant to be a country girl, but fell in love and married a city boy.. πŸπŸπŸ’•πŸžπŸ‘πŸπŸπŸ’•πŸžπŸ‘
