eharoot , I just started a thread on this recently, and there are several responses about it there, along with a couple of links to studies about it.

I just started taking it, 200 mg tonight, and hope to build up to 600mg if I tolerate it. It looks very promising for several conditions, MS included!

I started alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy in my feet. 600 mg This was from my PCP. Then saw my MS Doc yesterday and she said to increase it to 1200mg as it also helps with brain atrophy (shrinkage). I found this quite interesting. So tonight I started the 1200mg

I've been taking alpha Lipoic acid for a long time. It comes bundled with Acetyl– L – carnitine. I think it's about 500 mg. I never heard that it with brain shrinkage. I think originally I heard it was for helping with memory and cog Fog problems and work as a cell anti-oxidant. I heard about it from other MS patientswhich is how I came up with the list of supplements I currently take. So do they know it actually helps with brain shrinkage? Is there a scientific study on it? Would it hurt me if I went up to 1200 mg? then I'd have to ask how would I know it was helping? Taking supplements is a rather nebulous thing; I take a lot of them but I never know for sure if they really help other than empty my pocket a little bit more. I do know that I'm very stable with my MS so I'm afraid to not take any of the supplements I take.
