Backyard wildlife - Houdini our squirrel

We have this squirrel proof bird feeder hanging over the water. Somehow Houdini manages to climb up the thin shaft, hang upside down, and pull seeds out, one-by-one, with his tiny fingers. Yesterday I chased him down 3 times. Now, he looks to see if I'm watching from the window before he takes the arduous journey.

Lesson: where there's a will, there's a way, especially for squirrels 😉

Yes, wouldn't it be great if we all had the persistence of squirrels.

We have grey squirrels but the local shoot, shoot them, as they call them tree rats and they have to thin them out. I love to see them run across the road and up the trees, very acrobatic, thanks Iona60, I can tell you have a lot of fun, blessings Jimeka

But jimeka i thought you all in the U.K. Had official turtle crossings? And we're much more humane than we are here

I've learned from experience that there is no such thing as a squirrel proof bird feeder 'cause those darned squirrels are awfully clever scoundrels to say the least. :)

In the early 1980's I got my dad into bird watching because he had a nice yard and loved looking out the windows at the birds. He went out and bought an expensive set of binoculars, multiple feeders and expensive bird seed. Then the squirrels came. He bought every contraption he could find to baffle them, they still got to the seed. I just laughed, if they find it they will get to it.

HA HA HA! Sounds just like my dad Morllyn ! He gets so frustrated with the gray squirrels, not to mention the red squirrels we have in the backyard!

You made me laugh. I had to put a squirrel proof round hood over mine. My crazy squirrel still found a way to get to the food.

SQUIRREL ! ! ! : )

I am v. familiar with these guys where I live in the UK. We back on to a wooded slope so see and hear them regularly : ) I know some people consider them pests/ intruders and blame them for the decline of our native red squirrel but they are so cuuute ! The excavation holes they leave in my planters where they bury their nuts maybe not so cute ! : )) I love these furry little versions of Spiderman : ) Thanks for sharing Houdini's escapades : ) x

We hung a metal cone over the feeder. He can't get to the food now.I kind of miss him.
