Having a song stuck in your head

I am wondering if anybody else gets songs stuck in their minds. This gets to the point where nothing can distract my mind from the continuous replay in my head. My husband talking with me, television, reading, listening to other music--none have helped me. Any suggestions?

I have never heard of that before, it must be very annoying for you. Is it songs you listen to all the time or any song that you happen to hear.? Blessings Jimeka

It was a song from an Amazon Prime series I watched. I finally got it out of my mind by engaging in a conversation with my husband and brother and listening to music on YouTube. I don't know if MS caused this, but it is annoying. Thank you for replying.

I appreciate your advice very much. I eventually got involved in conversation with my husband and my brother while listening to music on YouTube. It seems to have worked that song out of my head. My mind also seems to get trapped on scenes from movies or series I watch. I don't really know if this is a manifestation of MS, but it surely drives me up the wall. Thank you.

Hello Vlbrown57

I have I happen all the time but i's been that way all my life. I just love music especially songs that have meaning. Usually when I need to get it out of my mind I find doing a crossword puzzle or something that involves me using the left side of my brain like balancing my checkbook lol.

I am glad that the conversation you had worked. I'm not sure if I can say MS is a contributing factor or not.

I think the name they give to your problem is EAR WORMS. Songs play over and over in your mind. I have had this happen to me. Eventually it goes away. Look it up and see what kind treatments they can give you

Hello Vibrown57, it's Fancy1959. I am not sure we've spoken before so I guess we have I wanted to welcome you to this incredible chat. You have found a safe spot to come to to voice concerns and questions and just find out general information about MS. This chat room is full of caring, kind, compassionate people that are very positive and upbeat. It is an awesome place to find the support you need.

Now onto your question about getting a song stuck in your head. Hopefully it's one you like otherwise or your messed over! If you like it set back and enjoy. If you don't like it start singing or humming a song you like and hopefully you can hit that was stuck in your head replacing the one you don't like. You know the old saying if you can't beat them join them. Hopefully you can carry a tune.

Now as far as myself being able to carry a tune, it is highly questionable.Ha! Ha! Talk to you soon. Take care of yourself until we do

Oh yeah. In German this is called an ear worm; Oliver Sachs wrote about this annoyance. I've experienced this for most of my adult life: sometimes its songs my father sang, sometimes radio/TV jingles, sometimes pop songs, sometimes something classic. It's puzzling, because I don't remember verbatim what people say, but when words are sung or music played sometimes I can't get rid of it. The only solution I have found when an ear worm begins to annoy is to deliberately sing a different tune in my head. I can no longer control my singing voice, stay on key (I suppose this is MS damage) so do not sing out loud but I sound just fine inside my head. And, I am grateful when an ear worm overrides my ever present tinnitus. And though one of the neurologists I saw said tinnitus is not a MS symptom, I beg to differ!

Like Erash said you can learn something on here everyday. I have just googled ear worm and it was very interesting. Not for the person who suffers with it. It is good that it has suggestions on how to get rid of it though. I hope that you find a remedy that works. Blessings Jimeka
