My game plan to outsmart Secondary Progressive MS

Undiagnosed for 20+ years. Now I'm 71 and figuring out how to outsmart Secondary Progressive MS. Some days it outsmarts me and other days I win. Work hard to keep your spirits up. Keep reading and learning about MS. You must be your own advocate.

Good luck! Right there with you... I am choosing to be thankful for every day. It will not win...although sometimes I may stumble (figuratively and literally).

I'm right there with you. I'm 70 and i was diagnosed when I was fifty-two, although I know I had RRMS when I was thirty-five. I now have SPMS, but I still have many blessings to count every day and have a lot to be thankful for, even though some days are better than others.

Exercise, stretch and have a good diet. They help me tremendously.

@purpletustin, after many decades with SPMS I'm still learning about it. I have found that I do best if I try to keep to a fairly rigid schedule. No late nights, no days of overdoing, 3 meals plus a snack at bedtime every day, an afternoon nap without fail. And as RobertCalifornia said, eating nutritious food and exercising are really important for everyone. The rigid schedule and the afternoon nap are what work for me. They might not work at all for someone else.

Your comments seem very practical and doable. I'm going to put more effort into following your lead. Thanks so much for the pathway you've suggested.

Wow, I get to be kid in group. I'm 68 and was just diagnosed in August. I was very active person until I went numb at end of June. Still getting further evaluations at UCSF for definite diagnosis. Will that help determine stage or typ of MS?

I was dx at 40 and i have 3 wonerful kids. They are my motivation, my comic relief and my exercise partners :) I know i will be running and playing with them in no time, once I can feel the lower part of my body.

As Dory says " just keep swimming"
