All I want is a decent size sharps container!

Can anyone tell me where I can get a big sharps container? I requested one from Briova for my used Avonex pins and what they sent me is barely bigger than a juice glass. Seriously? What am I going to do with that? I've always gotten the large containers from them in the past.

And then there's the problem of finding someone that will dispose of the full containers. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does your area not allow the use of thick plastic containers? Bleach containers are usually acceptable as they are thick walled and resist needle punctures.

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I'm in the Tidewater Virginia area. I used to get nice, large containers with a box to return the filled containers for disposal free of charg. That didn't last long though.

I used to get the large containers but they no longer supply them. If you find someone who does, please let me know. I am also on Avonex and those small things are no good for the size of the pens. My neurologist office usually dispose of the pens for me, but if I forget to take them in we take them to the recycling center and they have a place to dispose of the sharps containers(they provide).

I've just been diagnosed in June and I'm not sure about all of the areas but a group called Shared Solutions got me a huge sharps container. You may want to check them out.

Hi - needle cutters are great. After your shot is done you put needle in hole and clip it off. Needles stay inside cutter and you throw syringe away. You can get them at drug stores - they don't usually stock but will order for you.

I use the Avonex pen so the needle retracts into the pen after use. I'd have to get some long needle nosed pliers to twist out the needle to be able to use the small container they sent me.

you can use a large milk jug. I use a BD safe-clip. I got mine from the Copaxone people, Shared Solutions, but you can get them online for $5 or so. Then you don't have to have the sharps container.

I also use a shotblocker. It uses pressure points to desensitize the area so you don't feel the sticks.

I got mine at Walgreen's and am sure most drug stores sell them. Some of those come with a mailer so you can mail the container back to them when it is full, or take it to your local fire station which usually has a disposal container. When traveling, I use plastic water bottles.

Thanks! I went on Amazon and was able to get a 3-pack of 2 gallon containers for $15. I feel like I hit the lottery! As far as disposal, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Get a needle clipper instead and a sharps container is no longer necessary. Amazon.

to ynggal and all others who buy the various containers for collection of used needles. Please...save your money. I checked with the lab folks, at both a local military facility and one of the nearby city hospitals, about the container requirements. I use a medium size (40 oz) peanut butter jar. Sturdy plastic bottle, with a solid screw-on lid. Have been doing this since late 2011, except for one nine month period when I tried a different DMT. Very economic way to control / collect this type of hazardous waste. That's my 2cents worth. Ooops...less than that. C-Ya.

You can use an empty laundry detergent bottle.

I used to use that or gallon vegetable oil containers. The clear one I wrapped in duct tape and there away. same as the laundry detergent one. That is was my town says to do! Free and easy!
