Future demand for palliative care set to rise

New research published in the open access journal BMC Medicine has projected that numbers of deaths will rise by 25% between 2014 and 2040, with projection of 42% increase in palliative care needs. By 2040, at least 160,000 more people each year are likely to have palliative care needs, including pain management of chronic illnesses and end-of-life care at hospitals, hospices, and at home.
