Tiny, red pinpoint dots on my arms.

morrisseysgirlfriend profile image

Hi! I have been getting these weird red dots on my skin, mostly on my arms. They’re very small, like pinpoints. I went to urgent care a few days ago and the physician told me to stop worrying and that they are extremely insignificant. I had a few blood tests done over 40 days ago, on the 16th of January, and they all look normal. I also caught a cold this week, but before I caught it I noticed the dots appearing. I am just getting extremely nervous and have been an emotional wreck lately. I have major health anxiety, so I’m not really helping myself out when I sit here and continuously Google my symptoms lolol. Any ideas on what this could be?

Could they be connected to anything in your diet? A naturopath once explained to me that our skin is the last excretory organ, so if your gut can't deal with something the chances are that your skin will try to deal with it.

I don’t think it could be connected with my diet at all. I’m going to the doctor tomorrow and am getting a ton of tests done, as well as a physical. I’ll check back in with ya as soon as I find some answers :)

Do you take prednisolone by any chance? I have the same red dots. They tend to spread out, go darker and then turn slowly pale brown and stay there. A bit like an aging spot. My consultant thinks it’s most likely the prednisolone, if not the Lupus, but definitely nothing to worry about in any case.

I do not take this. I have just gotten off two courses of Amox-Clav and I have been reading that it can cause these dots. But I’m not entirely sure. I’m just scared because my brain automatically thinks it’s something bad, and Google doesn’t help either.

I showed mine to my consultant and he wasn’t concerned at all. We all get weird symptoms from time to time. It’s good to share concerns on this website.

If they are flat and look like they are in the skin then they are more than likely Petechiae and nothing to worry about. You say you had a cold lately, did you by chance take any medication with Aspirin in it as that can be the cause.

The doctors are right in telling you that they are nothing to worry about.

I can get them quite often and my dermatologist, rheumatologist and GP have all said that they are nothing to worry about.

Good luck with all your tests.

Turns out, nothing to worry about at all!! I had a few different tests performed, everything turned out fine. My doctor said they were just cherry hemangioma, nothing to worry about :) Thank you!!

Brilliant news and thanks for letting me know. Yes I know cherry,s I have the little blighters around the midriff. I wondered what they were as well and so have many others. Perfectly harmless harmless and very very common but it's amazing how few of us know about them, quite strange when you think about it in this day and age. Makes me wonder just how many people are hiding them away and worrying about them when they really don't have to so that when someone else finds they have some they have no idea about them and worry needlessly.

Maybe it's time for a national awareness Day for Skin Cherries to help others who may be worried about what they are.

Hi! I know this thread is a little bit old but has anyone got an answer about these tiny red pin prick dots on the skin? I’ve had them for nearly 3 years :-/

Any advice from your experience would be much appreciated! I don’t want to bother the Dr with everything else that’s going on if it’s not urgent.

Hi! I spoke with my doctor, she informed me that these are just cherry hemangioma. It’s nothing to worry about, I got a few different tests done and everything came back perfectly fine. I totally understand, hospitals and doctors are staying extremely busy during these crazy times. I hope you’re staying safe, as well as those around you. God bless!

Hey, I had a very bad reaction to celexa and Paxil. My skin turned sunburnt red, all my hair follicles turned red and inflamed and lost my arm hair and leg hair. I also happen to have cherry angiomas on my chest, torso, and arms. The more I read about Allergic reactions to ssri antidepressants they can cause blood vessels to go haywire and I get broken capillaries easy. I’ve been off all my meds for 100 days and still are finding angiomas! I have a follow up in two weeks at the dermatologist.

I've had this issue for years. I've finally discovered the reason. It's due to an irritation from an allergen.I've had tests for allergies and nothing helped. I get them on my upper arms and shoulders. I just discovered I'm having a reaction to the harsh chemicals in shampoo. I've switched to a hypoallergenic shampoo to help.

Consider detergents, lotions, even sun exposure and try to use sensitive washes.

I hope this helps you. I haven't been able to wear tank tops in years and now can finally begin again.
