Still searching for the miracle OCD medication

Can someone please tell me if there is any medication that they have tried that has stopped the ruminating thoughts of Ocd. I think of the same stupid mistake I made last year and how I hurt someone in the process....not physically...more of an embarrassment type thing. I am on sertraline and it is not helping. Thanks.

Are you on any other meds? I take a SSRI, a benzodiazapine, and a SGAA. The SGAA I take is quetiapine, generic for Seroquel. The quetiapine was added for intrusive thought and it has helped.

Best regards.

I take sertraline only and it is not helping with rumination. How do you feel that the seroquel has helped? I also have ptsd...thanks.

You should be taking a SSRI, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, for balancing serotonin and improving depression. I take Luvox. But there's others. And an anti-anxiety for the anxiety. I take Ativan, though, there may be a benzodiazapine that may work better for you. When I had the SGAA, second generation atypical antipsychotic, added in the form of quetiapine it lessened the intrusive thoughts and images most of the time. When I do have them I ruminate less. I find it easier to move on.

In my experience there is no miracal cure. Like recovering addicts, recovery is a life long journey we have to take a day at a time.

Best regards.

Are you currently seeing an OCD specialist to engage in ERP (and potentially ACT)? Taking an SSRI definitely helps me, but I think of it as providing more of a space between the stimulus and my response. In other words, it doesn’t stop the thoughts but allows me to more effectively do ERP to make them irrelevant in my brain.

I completely agree. Medication can be a part of treatment program, but it should be viewed as more of an aid than the main treatment.

The miracle cure for OCD is changing your view of your thoughts and how you relate to them.

I am taking sertraline 300mg/daily, and it is not helping in my obsessive thoughts.

I also take other psychiatric medications in adjunct with sertraline for OCD.

But sadly none of the medications are working in lessening the OCD symptoms.

I feel that we are not in control of these OCD thoughts that occur to us.

We can try to not engage with the thoughts.

Just observe it as an OCD thought.

The more you resist, the more it persists.

Do not try to analyze or question the OCD thought.

We do not want to give importance to the thought.

OCD picks on something which is of value to you, and that it bother's you.

I picture my OCD thoughts which go in an OCD box.

The content of the OCD thought is irrelevant.

I suffer from obsessive thoughts which constantly keep changing.

OCD can latch on to anything for any period of time.

It could be a matter of days, months, years.

OCD never quits.

I hope this helps.

Hoping you feel better.

The fact that it never quits is awful. I do not know how much more I can take but I hang on for my family. No real quality of life though.

It's rough, but I've seen people like my mom succeed with OCD. She graduated college and worked for the county for 10 years. She retired with good benefits. She has a husband, kid's, and grandchildren that love her.

I also go to a local support center where all the employees are peers in recovery. There are some amazing people down there.

I take fluvoxamine. They don't prescribe it as much now because it has a lot of interactions, but it works halfway decent for me. I sure feel the difference if I run out of it.
