Struggling to finish high school with OCD

Hi there, I am really really struggling to finish high school. I do online school and I have a 504 plan which I suppose has helped a bit because my teachers modified some work for me. But I only have 1 month of school left and I am behind over 100 lessons. I asked my teachers if there was anything else they could do, but there wasn't anything and I am so anxious and overwhelmed. I don't find any motivation to get online and start doing schoolwork, but I don't know how I'll graduate. This is my last year and I can't fail. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how I can finish this year? My OCD is making it so impossible for me to.

Is there any chance that you can get your therapist to talk to some of the school officials? I know that my therapist frequently works with kids in school and has conversations about how it just isn't possible to expect the same volume of output from someone that is struggling to control their OCD.

Thank you for your response. That's a good idea, except since I take online school, I don't know who would talk to my therapist. My school doesn't really provide contact information so I wouldn't know how my therapist could get in touch with them.

Hi there,

I would definitely agree with this piece of advice. It would be a good idea to find a way to contact your school directly, either by phone or email, and explain to them the situation. You could also contact your therapist and see if they are able to assist you with contacting the school. Even if you can just call a general phone number for the school, somebody should be able to send you to the proper person to speak with.

I think it would be very helpful for you to have a study coach. She or he would sit and encourage you to get started. I work as a study coach for a student in your very position and she is doing an amazing job of completing her assignments with my help and encouragement. She has admitted that she would have absolutely dropped out of school if she hadn't found me! Seek out a study coach, girl. Sheila

Hi........My daughter was in the exact position a year ago. I asked her for some advice for you and this is what she said........

I know it may be hard to hear but its OK if you can't finish this year. I felt like I would be "behind in life" if I couldn't finish on time. As someone who has OCD, your path will be a little bit different than everyone else. Try not to compare yourself to others. Having an extra year really took off the pressure and made it a little less stressful for me. I also took online classes and was very lucky that my high school really worked with me. Good luck to you!

Hi! I struggle with college because of my rituals which can he very exhausting so by the time I want to do my homework sometimes, I too have no motivation until the last minute because of the exhausting rituals and how I play them out. It's so time consuming and I have been running late for class for the past two weeks. I even have to convince myself that I won't contaminate my clean computer or I don't want to touch it for fear of getting dead skin from over washing my hands all over it. So far I am passing my classes and the semester ends May 8th.

Hi, I just happened to revisit this post and saw all the really kind responses. If you happen to see this, well, I did finish and graduated :) I had an extension in the summer which helped me be able to finish everything. I honestly don't even know how I did it, but my family wasn't expecting me to get all these fantastic grades, they wanted me to just finish. And I think that helped, not feeling that pressure at least. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your kind words and support!
