Support Group Meetings

Gill is now in year 12 of this terrible condition. I attended a support group, on the Wirral, for the first time this week.

It was a tremendous afternoon and I was blown away by the stoicisim and strength shown by the amazing number of people who attended with MSA and their loved ones.

A huge thanks to Val Rogers and the MSA Specialist Emma Saunders

My big take away from it was to say to everyone who has MSA or cares is to find a support group and attend. We've spent all these years thinking it was just us and wondering what was next, what is happening and why me. I think meeting so many people with MSA shows you how varied and personal it is and why its so hard for the professionals to tell you how things will progress. It's clear there's a lot of variance and hearing how speech was affected by such different degrees and at such different stages was an eye opener.

Although Gill couldn't attend she was completely energised by the stories and news from the day and so again i would say.. don't leave it too late like i did, find a group and get to meet your fellow travellers

I so agree with you. Every meeting we’ve been to of our local group has been so interesting and positive. We now have an active group in the three counties of Worcestershire/ Gloucestershire/ Herefordshire and meeting again in January.

Hi There. We have been attending support groups for 4 years and I have ended up hosting ours so that it can meet. Geoff doesn't always come as he feels a bit neglected when I get busy and he can't have the conversations that he would like, but we get lots of really useful information and as you say that chance to not feel alone. Which reminds me to put a reminder on here about our meeting next week!!! Thanks. Diane

PS I have just worked out what your user name stands for - very clever!
