Hi All

I have started this thread so we can recommend places to stay and visit that cater for the needs of MSA sufferers and Carers.

Any recommendations?

We go on holiday each yearin November to bournmouth with our local Parkinson's club. We go to "The Grove Hotel" which is owned by Mc Millian cancer research and is a "not for profit" buisness. Anyone with a cronic illness can go at anytime of the year (not just cancer suffer's). All rooms have profile beds and bathrooms are capable of handling various needs of domacillary care. you can talk to the in house nurse whom will provide any equipment you need, help with medications and dietary needs and advise on an outside care company to help with showering and dressing etc they also have their own fleet of mobility scooters. Fantastic staff and a wonderful hotel. Rooms were halfboard from £90-140 a night and outside care morning and night was £12.50 an hour.

Hi Paul (we must have another coffee sometime)

Whilst we haven't (yet) been to this place we have seen a highly recommended holiday cottage in the Brecon Beacons through dissabledholidays.com. Details can be found at bit.ly/2u3dItg

We became aware of this through the thebimblers.com website which is a blog by a couple who are determined to travel despite of their physical limitations. Whilst some of their destinations don't over excite us, others are interesting. For instance following their blog, Jackie and I went to Liverpool and had a really good experience.

Brill idea!

We took Mum to fuengirola whilst she was able to travel. Area is flat and brill access to hiring equipment. We had a power chair which mum could drive along the prom. Wouldn't recommend summer though as hot and busy.

We went to some lovely cottages in Norfolk, started by a lady with Parkinson's and now continued by the family - I think it's Norfolk Disabled Cottages, something like that. They were all brilliantly adapted and catered for different sized groups, equipment could be hired.

We had a fantastic holiday with my parents (my dad has MSA) in a cottage called peppers barn in Burton on the Wolds near Loughborough. It is level access and has a profile bed, ceiling track hoist if needed, wet room, grab rails in the bathroom and open plan, so it is accessible for wheelchairs. Everything is to a very high standard and it has all the mod cons you would expect. There are some lovely pubs, canals, garden centres and an abbey to visit. If you Google peppers barn you should find it. It was lovely to be able to spend some precious unrushed time with my lovely brave dad.
