Yesterday afternoon I noticed that Stu had started coughing, it carried on into the evening so did a lateral flow test which came up positive. Have rung the hospital this morning to cancel and rebook Venesection and urology. Spoke to consultants secretary who is going to organise anti virals. Urology rebooked for 10 days time.

Sorry to hear you've got Covid; hope the anti virals work really well and you'll make a full and quick recovery.

We had a phone call from the covid treatment team and according to them PV is not a cancer and Stuart is not eligible for antivirals!

Isn't it a pain when we know the WHO classify all MPN as blood cancer.

As I understand it, I may be wrong, the anti virals are given according to the medication we're taking.

Sorry to hear about the COVID. Wishing you all a speedy recovery.

it is silly for the treatment team to say that PV is not a cancer. Of course it is. What may be true is that PV does not put you at any higher risk with COVID, however. That is, in fact, what the MPN Specialty team at Johns Hopkins said when I had COVID. I was able to access the monoclonal antibody treatment not due to PV but because age >65.

The antivirals are now much more available. Really anyone with COVID who prefers that route should be able to access them. It is a pity that access is so limited.

All the best.

Age = 69 should be ample justification for antivirals in my view. Of course, I think anyone who has COVID should be able to access antivirals if they prefer that course of treatment. Like all drugs, it is a matter of weighing the risks and benefits. We each should make our own decision. I know some who were offered antivirals and declined. They prefered to just ride the COVID out.

The cost of a course of Paxlovid is not very high (costs the government about $530). It is perplexing that access is limited in some care systems. It really should be readily available to anyone ho believes it is the best course of treatment. here is some info about the antivrials based here in the USA.

Scaredy_Cat's suggestion regarding pushing may be worth pursuing if Stu really does want to pursue antivirals treatment.

All the best.
