426 platelet count: Hi i just got blood work done... - MPN Voice
426 platelet count
Be careful with Dr. Google. He can be very misleading. The diagnostic criteria for thrombocytosis per the WHO is 450. You are still within normal limits. You will find different reference ranges at different labs, but 450 is the ceiling diagnostically. See diagnostic criteria for Essential Thrombocythemia.mpnconnect.com/pdf/who-diag...
Be aware that platelet levels can cycle by as much as 100K in a single day. This is normal platelet function as your body reacts to various things like bleeding, inflammation and injury. Platelet levels can also be elevated due to things like iron deficiency. In the absence of something else going on, 426 is nothing to worry about.
All the best.
Well that’s good news. Your platelets are within normal range. If you continue to be concerned then why not chat to your regular doctor? And keep away from Dr Google! There’s a lot of out of date and scaremongering ‘information’ out there which can make you feel unnecessarily sick!
hello Deelove123, completely understand your worries, you do need to discuss this with your own doctor, he/she will be able to assess this for you, with regards to why you had to see an emergency doctor who did the blood tests. There are many reasons, as Hunter has said, for raised platelets, but yours are within the normal range, a normal platelet count is 150 to 450. Best wishes, Maz
Oooh you poor thing. Don’t worry.Absolutely do not rely on google!
I have PV and my platelets vary all the time between 270 and 600. They go up and down for seemingly no reason. Mine are 474 at the mo. You have a blood cancer and your results will never be totally normal all the time. All sorts of things can affect your platelets according to my mpn specialist ( who is a professor) from toothache to a cut to a small cold.
I don’t worry at all and neither should you. Please find a haematologist with whom you feel comfortable, but this one is right. Don’t be frightened or worried at that reading - but express any concerns you have with your haematologist and not google!
Love
Louise

In the circumstances, it would be sensible to have a review full blood count done after a few months to see what the position is then. Meanwhile, don’t worry.
As everyone has said, it is best to speak with your GP. And if you are still concerned ask for a full blood test in 3 months. These things can vary daily and you will get a better picture over time. Not to worry.
Hi - I agree with Hunter - try to keep focused & stay calm...
423 is, I think, either normal, or very slightly raised. If you are worried, ask for them to be repeated. Mine were 1400 for 3 years before my GP bothered to tell me!
Please don’t worry too much about that number. I haven’t been below 550 for years and my average now are in the 700’s. And i take between 3 and 4 chemo pills a day plus baby aspirin. I would be dancing for joy if I were at 426. Take care.
