I had a bad dose of gout, my consultant said it was a side effect of MPNs, not uncommon. He put me on allopurinol daily which prevents it coming back. Good luck.

Gout is a symtom of MPN. Hubby takes cherry concentrate daily (he gets from Holland & Barratt but available in lots of places) can make it up with water to drink or mix into a yoghurt or milk. It has really helped him. If he has a few days without it the gout pain comes back.

I can't remember the exact details but blood cells break down to form the uric acid which can cause gout. Because MPN patients have more blood cells than the normal there is more uric acid in your system which is why more prone to gout.

Ibrtutinib can have hyperuricemia as an adverse effect (gout is one possible outcome).

Peripheral edema is also a possible side effect. Not sure which you are experiencing, but definitely follow up with your care team ASAP.

Hope you get relief soon.

I started Ibrutinib three weeks ago. After the third day, Gout came...It moved around my joints and we pretty significant. The consultant took my off allopurinol and it got better in a couple of days. I get the odd bit of gout every other day but it's manageable! My Lymphocyte count drop by 100 in 2 1/2 weeks, so I should expect the strong response was responsible for the gout. In a funny sort of way the gout told me Ibrutinib is doing its job
