Jak 2 pos -protein shakes

Hi just wondered if anyone on here had protein shakes that they use with fitness? I have ET Jak2 pos, and have recently started having one a day to try and build some muscle into my menopausal body. But past few weeks I’ve been really tired, bone aches, really heavy legs. Has anyone had any similar issues. Only because I know Jak2 positive is to do with the protein in your blood. Maybe I’m being stupid having the shakes!!!

These pains and heavy legs most likely are caused by your fitness activity. Especially if you're novice or had a long vacation from fitness activity. You may need to adjust your exercises, with professional fitness coach if possible. It's very unlikely that protein shake is the reason of your problem.

Theoretically speaking, protein shakes have lots of sugar inside and this promotes inflammation in your body which should be avoided since Jak2 already causes chronic inflammation.

Hi Alex it’s, thank you for your reply. I have always done exercise classes, so am quite fit, and do lots of walking too, especially during this pandemic, with sheilding., so haven’t really changed that side of things. Just having the shakes so yes they could be increasing the inflammation and making me feel so tired, never thought of that, thanks 👍

As far as I’m aware there are some real issues with ‘protein shakes’ and their ilk. As Alexbits highlights many have added sugars, some copious amounts, which would be undesirable on any level.

Have to say I’d be concerned about increasing sugar intake in relation to MPNs and inflammation and also in terms of a ‘menopausal body’. Not just in terms of potential weight gain etc but I understand there are also some potential issues about protein shake use and osteoporosis as well as kidney function.

The bottom (boring but true) line seems to be a balanced diet is the way to go to increase protein intake. Maybe this is something you could discuss with your haem / GP? You may also want to consider changing the kind of exercise you do?

Wishing you well.

I dont use protein shakes anymore - but more for fasting reasons....I do however use protein bars as meal replacements...use to use Quest bars, but have switched to No Cow bars as they are vegan and eliminate the dairy (whey) in the quest bars.
