INFLAMMATION – EXPANDING OUR PERSPECTIVES...

Afternoon all... :D

We often here that everything to do with having 'Inflammation' is a negative, when that is not really true. Inflammation is simply a normal bodily defence against injury and infection. The problem we have as MPN Club members, is that our bodies have become affected by both mutations in our genes, that might be genetic or acquired, and that has altered the balance of how 'Inflammation' might be operating in our lives...

It really is a fascinating subject, and one well worth more of our attention, in my view... Bringing about a more normalised balance in our levels of 'Inflammation' seems not only logical but more desirable especially for people like us whose systems have become unbalanced, for one reason or another...

Hope you find the article of some interest too...

Stay safe & well...

Thanks for the reference. Added it to my "Inflammation" folder. I am quite convinced that the MPNs are properly understood to be at the core inflammatory disorders. The dysregulation of the JAK-STAT pathway (tyrosine kinase system) has wide reaching impact that goes well beyond hematopoiesis. That is quite clear in the research now. What is not so clear is what to do about it. I expect the answer is complex and there may never be one treatment that works for everyone.

My treatment regimen for broad ranging impact of inflammation seems to be helping with at least some of the symptoms. Hopefully more comprehensive answers will be forthcoming.

Hey Hunter... :-)

My pleasure buddy... Yes, there seems to be so much anecdotal evidence, all pointing to the same type of hypothesis ...

Hopefully, this information, (and mounting findings), might / will (?) eventually lead researchers off into better speculative notions for a cure of something more durable or of a sustainable nature...

The problem of course, once discovered, is no one wants to kill the golden egg-laying goose...

It is undoubtedly a fascinating connection... I guess we shall merely have to watch developments... fingers crossed! 8-)

Best wishes buddy...

Interesting review. Thanks for flagging it up. Like all other body systems there are positive factors balanced by negative factors. As we MPNers know, sadly, ours are out of kilter.

Precisely... 8-)

All the more reason to understand what it might mean to each of us, and how knowing such things can be used to our advantage...

Stay safe & well...

Good Morning Steve good info and fascinating balance on inflammation. Hope your well! I’m still stable by God’s Grace, swimming and focusing on inner well being to reduce anxiety and melancholy that is hitting people all over the world via news etc. Anyway it’s a blessing to always receive uplifting articles from you. Thanks for always thinking of others!

Morning Clarke... :-)

Thanks for your warm reply.

Not at all... I am just being human, and remembering that we are all connected... Especially, in these most troubling of times, we'll all do well by aiding each other as best we might, and in whatever way might seem appropriate...

My life's philosophy, has long be one that recognises, all life is connected... on and at every level!

Hence, we all need each other, in order to sustain ourselves...

Best wishes my friend...

This web site is my life saver.

Good news today, my plates are 312 .

Three years and counting.

Thank you for that, socrates-8. I had no idea that the two might be connected. I thought it was just because I also have OA in my knee and have done my back in twice this year! I have been blaming myself for the resultant swelling.

Hey Maggie... :-)

Lovely to be making your 'Virtual' acquaintance... Yes, that is what is so good about this FORUM, we can all learn so much from each other...

I do hope your OA improves now you are in the warmer seasons...

Stay safe & well...

best wishes...

Thank you for posting this interesting article. Just as there are "good bacteria" and "bad bacteria" (in the gut) and "good cholesterol" and "bad cholesterol", perhaps there are also "good inflammation" and "bad (or at least badly regulated) inflammation" ...

socrates_8 profile image

Hey JaK2ET... :-)

Yes, well sort of I suppose...

Inflammation, is not really good or bad in itself, it is just 'Inflammation.

Inflammation is actually the body's defence mechanism for whenever we injure ourselves, or become infected in some way. The 'Inflammation' at the site of the wound or infection tells us that our body is doing what it's supposed to do to aid our healing...

Unfortunately, in the case of us MPNers, we have a mutation that proliferates the production of one or more types of blood cells, which has the effect of creating more 'Inflammation' than we need to heal our wounds...

This is where, managing a good 'anti-inflammatory' diet, coupled w/ a consistent exercise regime, might help to overcome our MPN condition by aiming towards restoring a level of balance to our bodily eco-system etc...

But, it is just a theory... :-)

Best wishes

Steve
