Cataract removal

Just wondering ....I am having a cataract removed on Monday.....so if any of you have had the procedure , were you advised to stop the daily aspirin ?

I have just been told the same ,following an eye test last week,was about to ask the same about Plavix etc!!

Thank you Sally. Good luck with yours too. I had one eye done 3 years ago , it was just fine, colours after were so amazingly bright , lovely. I didn’t ask anybody about the procedure then , but I thought this time I will check.....just to be on safe side.

Glad to know of another MP N er with cataract Sandy!I am having a little panic as last year's test I was told at least 10 yrs before I would need op,

I will ask my consultant the pro's &con's when I see him in Dec ,we are in U K just now ,no doubt will have to have another eye test on return to Fr.

Just another thing isn't it on top of all our other probs....Best to you ,Sally

Hi Sally. Please don’t worry about it, the difference it makes to colours and clarity is wonderful. Which as an artist will be extra special to you.

I hope the weather where you are in the UK. Is somewhat better than down here in Devon , it’s been pretty wet. Enjoy your visit.

Hi, I Just had done laser treatment to put a hole in both my eyes as the pressure was high, this procedure helps with relieving the build up and me going on to get Glaucoma.

When I asked them did I need to leave off my Aspirin and Hydroxycarbamide as just like you I was concerned a few days before they said no as it was not an evasive procedure, they same would apply if I had needed the cataract operation which was also offered instead of laser. Went for the laser as if I had the cataract operation I would probably need to have the laser treatment done at a later stage.

Hope this helps, my husband has had both eyes done for cataracts with no problem what so ever, really improved his eye sight.

As suggested best to check with both haematologist and ophthalmologist before operation.

However my experience last year on the blood thinner Apixaban I was that told risk of stopping it greater than problems from operation as it wasn't invasive. The anaesthetist for the first eye didn't do one of the pre-op injections he would usually have done (? bruising side effect )- didn't make any difference to my experience of operation- but anaesthetist for second eye thought that was overkill though didn't do it. I now don't have to wear specs for distance - wonderful!

Feel less apprehensive now Sandy,hope the procedure is the same in Fr,as we are on Fr Health system........it's wet here too in Wilts,daughters fields are like ponds,the horses need wellies !!!!!Know how it rains in Devon ,lived there for many years,good to have others post of their experiences ,lifts the spirits to know of others....was struggling to finish a sculpture,harder and harder to see,kept changing specs and adding spotlights!!!!O M G!!!!Sally

I had both eyes done last year and didn't think to ask the question since it is a non invasive procedure. If you want to check do what Mazcd says. well worth having done. good luck

Hi I am PVR and Jak2 pos and last year had both cataracts removed (not at the same time). I take 75g aspirin a day and didn’t stop taking them. So glad I had them removed, good luck with yours.

Thank you. Anneian. So glad you had a good result. I too take aspirin and hydroxcarbamide , Messaged my heamos secretary who asked him , he said no problem continuing meds. So good to go now.

Well i had my appointment in hospital last week regarding my cataract, which I will have it removed in the next 12 month since I am a public patient, I was told by the surgeon that I won't need to stop blood thinner prior to the surgery, due to the way they do it nowadays. I live in Australia.

Hope all goes well for you. Cataract surgery normally only take 30 minutes to completed and successful rate is extremely high, I was told 98% and rarely has complications, you'll be given eye drops for about a week and all will be fine. Don't be nervous. Speedy recovery!

I just had my right eye done 2 weeks ago. No, I didn’t have to stop my meds and there weren’t any complications. I would dbl check with your doctor’s, though.
