I've been on Hydrea for 16 years for ET. Now I have MF as of last year. About 10 years ago my sugar levels went up. My doc said I was hyperglycemic and if I didn't change my habits I would have diabetes. I quit snacking and started eating more healthy. I lost 60 pounds and I feel much better since. I also had dry mouth from the high sugar as well as being tired.

I have my sugar level under pretty good control now. My A1C was at 4.9 last time. I would invest in a blood sugar meter and keep a watch on your levels. Best regards to you.

Thank you for your reply,my level at present is 6.5, my weight is fine, and i do watch what i eat,i prob dont drink enough when in work on a 9 hr shift and eat dinner late. So i am going to drink more and take time out for lunch.see how things go, but it could be my meds that are the problem,'i think time will tell x

If you are referring to your A1C level at 6.5 that is right at the diabetic level. I'd for sure take this up with your doctor. Exercise will reduce your blood sugar also.

I agree that this is a case of (possibly) drug induced Type Two Diabetes and needs to be treated as such. All the regular checks, including HbA1c, feet and eyes. Will be advisable to stop any complications of diabetes from developing. It may be necessary to commence treatment with metformin.

Thanks for reply,i had HbA1 blood test and was 6.5 my gp give me information on pre diabetes, and said repeat bloods in 3 months.i was a little shocked that he would leave it at that. I will try and get in touch with my hemo consultant next week and see what he thinks .

I do think its my meds . I am cutting out sugar watching what i eat,i do a lot of walking.my weight and bmi are fine. Gp did not seem worried that i had dry mouth and blurred vision at times.

I was diagnosed with pre diabetes about 10 years ago. I lost some weight, you don’t need to do that. I cut back on carbs and sugars and also started exercising. I am still doing that and I am no longer in danger according to my Doc. A1C was 4.9.

I would get a blood meter and keep tabs on it yourself. Diabetes can be serious
