I’ve had ETfor four years. Been on hydroxy and aspirin. This week after having to increase dose due to elevated platelets I’ve had itchy patch on leg where I have thread veins. Terrible itching when warm. Anyone else have this problem? I’m very tired by 2pm and feel I have to lay down for a while too.

I am now very wary of itchy ankles and feet. I also was on hydroxy and aspirin from 2007 to 2011 which controlled the platelets well. But suddenly I got this awful itching which I compulsively rubbed, and that made it worse. In less than a month my ankles and tops of my feet were covered in the well known hydroxy ulcers.

Now, I don't know whether they were precipitated by the rubbing or whether they would have happened anyway, but, although now on anagralide and interferon, when the itches (rarely) occur again I apply diprobase cream to sooth and otherwise leave them well alone!

Hello! Yes I have only been on hydroxyl for a year but have noticed very itchy legs and skin rather dry. It seems to help putting on a light /sensitive moisturiser, something like Vasoline to ease irritation.

Hope this helps.

I would get this checked out immediately. Hydrea can cause intractable ulcers on your feet. I know from painful experience. My GP did not make the connection. My dermatologist did not make the connection. My wound care specialist did not make the connection. When my hematologist saw a picture he pulled me off of HU immediately. Only then did I start to heal.

I’ll mention it at my appointment with haematology . Not so bad today seems worse when warmer. Thank you

Hard to say is this is HU or a dermatology issue, but as suggested by others, this is not something to ignore. HU can compromise the endothelium in your blood vessels and result in leg ulcers. This is a serious sign of HU toxicity and should be addressed ASAP. Please seek medical attention promptly. If this is just a minor dermatology issue - great - you can get it fixed. If it is HU toxicity - then it needs to be addressed promptly before it gets worse. All the best to you.
