Back Pain Kidney Area

Hi, folks, Happy New Year. I’ve had a really awful back ache, for 6 weeks, roughly by both kidneys, I assume its nothing to do with my ET, I have MPL/ET treated my 90 mcg Pegasys & LD Aspirin. My GP just said take some paracetamol, yes thanks for that, I already was. I just could do with some reassurance that it’s not to do with my ET then I can do some mind exercises to help with pain. My GP had never come across ET so she wasn’t able to reassure me. Thank you guys. Raphael

I had what I thought as kidney pain for years but chiropractor has fixed it, apparently it's the lower spine. Was painful standing up and when sitting too long plus disturbed sleep.

Thank you, I’ll get that checked out. Raphael

Could it be a side effect of Pegasys? If it persists I would go back to GP.

I had similar sudden pain last March and thought it was affect of Hydrea since I heard it could cause kidney stones. I went to the ER and a CT scan did not show anything and it was concluded it was muscular flank pain caused by my degenerative lower spine.

Thank you for replying, it does feel like muscular pain.

Did you try any pills earlier? If it is kind of muscular pain, then proper pills have to help you. For example, when I got a backache, I couldn't even get up from my bed, but my wife gave me a lot of pills, but none of them worked. Then someone recommended her to try pills, description of that I found at this site 420highstreet.org/best-krat.... Do you know backache was reducing day by day, furthermore, my mood were improving too. Now, I rarely have backache, but in order to get rid of it I take these pills and it helps immediately.

When my wife was in hospital with major bleed in the summer, she was suffering with terrible lower to mid back pain. This turned out to be a portal vein thrombosis. I suggest you try and get to see your consultant.

I've been on peg for only 2 months now and lower back pain is one of the most significant symptoms. I have had lower back issues intermittently in the past and I'm speculating that inflammation resulting from the peg is aggravating old injuries. I frequently take ibuprophen to deal with the joint pain. I'm avoiding acetaminophen since my liver counts have already climbed significantly since I started peg.

Thank you, that’s helpful. I did fracture 3 vertebra L1 area lower back in a car accident some years back. I’m new to Peg, maybe it’s aggravating an old injury in me as well. I’ve been taking loads of Paracetamol, what we call acetaminophen in the UK, I’ve not had a liver check so no idea what my count is. Thank you for replying.

I was on Peg for 18 months and had really bad back pain (lower to mid) during that time. Started Ruxolitinib (Jakavi) two weeks ago and the back pain is gone! Can't believe it.

Does sound like Peg is causing the problem, I can’t understand how, but the backache started as soon as I started to Pegasys. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Raphael

Did they test you for the B cell clone gene or mention it at all to you before putting you on Jakafai? Just curious as there's a known risk tied to people with that gene.

Thank you, no never been checked for that. I will ask about that. Thanks for replying. Raphael

Thanks for this jon1972. A next-generation sequencing myeloid panel was done to test for multiple driver genes. Nothing was said of a B cell clone gene so I will ask about it at my next appointment.

OK there are some good articles out about that. I would have posted a link about it but I'm new here and not sure if that's allowed.
