Fexofenadrine warning

Recently saw Claire because itching has been a real torment lately. She recommended I try fexofenadrine so I looked it up . Was surprised to find that apple, grapefruit and orange juice can reduce its effectivness by up to 40% if taken either 2 hours before or after taking the drug. This is a recent finding and is not on the drug information leaflet. Looks like it was only published mid August. Just google fexofenadrine and orange juice if you want to read more.

Gosh a mega important piece of information. I wonder if it’s the vitamin c that causes the interference. At the moment I’m trying to take extra Vit c to help absorb my iron and increase my haemoglobin level

Something in orange/fruit juice interferes with a receptor in the gut which prevents drug absorbtion

Even worse, Fexofenadine can cause the most frightful tinnitus.

I was prescribed this for a completely different reason ( I have histamine intolerance caused by an antibiotic called Nitrofurantoin which caused me to have tinnitus in my right ear)

I tried Fexofenadine only once and it made this ghastly tinnitus much much worse.

Read the Fexofenadine side effects bumph in the packet and it said “ can cause ringing ears” - they didn’t tell me that either!

Approach EVERY drug with great caution would be my advice.

Best wishes,

Louise.

Hi!! Anti-oxidants interfere with your sort of antihistamin. In my opinion Cetirizin and Loratadin is more cooperative !!! I have citrus fruit allergy and ET and have been taking these two antihistamins for more than 30 years without complications. I change every third month so my mast cells won't start "complaining" 😐

Ok. I am not you, but give it a chance.

Have a great Sunday.

Have you tried the certirazine + ranitidine combination that I’ve heard Rueben Mesa recommend ? ( and I see its on the pvreporter website that was posted here earlier today) Zyrtec plus Zantac in American branded terms.

I’v only had a very short spell of itching, and I do sympathise.

Hi i had been on Hydrea x 3 for around 13 years. Towards the end i had i lot of itching & red skin. Someone suggested beetroot juice. I thought it wouldnt hurt, had it twice a day for 2 days. Day 3 everything cleared up. Just had red urine as a side effect for a couple of days. This juice is full of iron, vitamins & minerals.

I believe the drugs we are put on destroy the lining in our gut. So we are nutrient deficient. Anyway worked for me... make sure u drink heaps of water as well.

Good luck
