ET, jak2+, 74 Male. Been on Hydroxycarbamide for 5 years and looking for a quieter life, hence aspirin, which I tried before and got tummy pains. I can remember reading on one of the blogs of a stomach sensitive aspirin. Any ideas?

Hi Michael,

I think you should discuss this with your haematologist or GP.

If aspirin upsets your tum, there are many alternatives such as taking a stomach protector (proton pump inhibitor), also some people on this forum take clopidogrel, which does the same job as aspirin and apparently is kinder to the tum. There is a coated aspirin too, which breaks down in the intestine rather than the tum, but you can still get bleeds.

Your health care professionals will know your history and which treatment is best suited for you.

i was on aspirin but played havoc with my stomach due to constipation i mentioned this to my consultant and he changed me to a drug called dypridamole modified released it means you take one capsule in morning and one at night which means the drug is thinning your blood 24 hours a day i have never looked back and no problems since taking them

best wishes scottishterrier

Hi, I just came across your post. I was diagnosed this year and like you I'm allergic to aspirin or any anti inflammatory. Please may I ask what medication that worked for you? Because of the pandemic my appointment was canceled and I am not on any medication at the moment. Thanks

I was having issues taking daily aspirin but moved from taking it in the morning to taking it in the evening with my meal and have had no problems since switching the timing.

Hi there, I take Aspirin daily, the gastro-sensitive one which are easy to find but I also take Slippery Elm which is completely natural, no side effects and lines the stomach.

I’ve been on enteric coated aspirin for 15 years with no problems - they’re much kinder to the stomach than regular aspirin

I take lazoprozle , I used to take it in the morning but then needed to take 1 at night as well. I recently cut out the morning one. I’m absolutely fine taking it only at night.
