Does CBD oil reduce platelets. Been taking this for 1 month.

My platelets went from 224 to 15 in 6 weeks.

1 month ago I started taking CBD for fibromyalgia and severe depression/ anxiety. Then yesterday they were 15. Just wondering if that's a coincidence or not.

Firstly, what is CBD oil? and 15 is mighty low and dangerous. You could bleed out if you get a cut.

CBD oil is now sold in most health food stores. It comes from the Cannabis plant with very low THC (hemp not marijuana). I'm not sure it can only target the bone marrow's production of platelets, but would love to see research on it. Cannabinoids have been shown to help reduce epileptic seizures, reduce anxiety, help with pain and so on (see research) and inflammation. More research is being done every day.

I'm not trying to lower them. I have severe anxiety/ depression along with fibromyalgia and ITP. JUst wondering if anyone know IF CBD lowered platelets

I was taking CBD for over a year now. I've been fighting Hep C, Fibromyalgia, chronic neck and back pain, anxiety and depression just to name a few. CBD was helping me, but I just got back my bloodwork yesterday and found my platelet count was 83 so I stopped with the oil for now till I find out what's going on. I've had low platelets for years, but not as low as this. I kinda don't think it's the CBD only because of the fact I've been on it for over a year and my platelets were never this low. Have to ask Dr. about it next week.

I'm not. My platelets have been good for months. I started CBD for fibromyalgia and severe depression and anxiety. Coincidentally after a month my platelets went from 224 to 15. Just wondering if it's connected

Are you on medication to reduce platelets and do you have a history of high platelets?

How much CBD oil are you taking? How many drops per day?

And you should know that 250 to 450 is a healthy range for platelets so please talk to your doc. JeanBean

Thank you for your concern. 3 drops 2-3 times daily. I've dealt with ITP many years now. Just started CBD oil to help with fibromyalgia pain.

Thats odd as I was using it for arthritis pain and my platelets shot up so we decided at my Guys appointment not to do it any more

I regularly take.cbd oil it does not reduce my platelets I just find it helps with bone pain and sleep and anxiety, been taking it for years

I have ET Jak2+. I have been trying CBD oil to relieve terrible leg cramps at night. I rub 2 drops on each leg twice a day and it seems to help. None for about 2 weeks now.

Just had monthly blood test, but doubt this will affect platelets?

Whatever the reason for your platelets reducing they are dangerously low. You need to get in touch with Guys about it.

I have taken cbd oil for years and I have what seems quite a intense ET Cal r and it has never lowered my platelets only helps me with some pain and anxiety and well being, I have even used cannabis oil or rso and that does not cure me anyway lol....., cbd oil is great though and cannabis oil is being seriously considered by the government just recently to be made legal for medical patients on the nhs, we have been making it here for years and selling it to other countries but now we might get to use it from gw pharmaceuticals.

I'm not trying to lower platelets. I was taking CBD oil for my pain with fibromyalgia and depression anxiety. I was just wondering if that lowered platelets. I've had ITP 25 years. This isn't new to me.

CBD stands for Cannabinoid Oil. It can be sold anywhere if the THC (read marijuana) level is too high. Really it is from hemp (Cannabis with lower THC). It has many medical properties that are showing promise in research (thank WA, OR, CA, CO and VT for legalizing recreational marijuana, a lot of studies are taking place in those states).

I know your asking about lowering platelets because we know about them but you say you have ITP which is the complete opposite to what we have which is an over production of platelets .

I don’t know about the oil but I would say you need to see the doctor about your ITP

Hi, I think you should check with your doctor what might be the cause of such a massive drop in your platelets. If hemp oil was the cause we would all be taking it.

Sorry for my confusion with Guys but advice remains the same. Whatever is causing it, your platelets are dangerously low and you risk a catastrophic bleed.

Hi Bren,

I was vaping CBD oil for about 4 weeks, I started it at the same time I started Interferon Peg, after the 4 weeks my platelets has dropped from 1073 to 800!

I’ve stopped the CBD for this 4 week session of Peg to see if there is any difference! As I of course assume it’s the Peg causing the drop but honestly can’t be sure...I’ll let you know if there’s a drop at my next blood count without using CBD oil and that might help answer your question.

Thanks for your reply. I decided to stop CBD all together. Even though it helped with fibromyalgia depression. I had 2 IV steroids and 1 rituxin. Will check platelets again on tues.

Dear Bren... first of all sorry for my English. I feel you. I get it (it was so simple) you had ITP, you are taking CBD for other stuff, but at the same time you had a drop.

I’m sorry everybody was thinking you were trying to low down your palets. I am looking for the same,thing as you, as I read it was a good inflammatory I was fearing it might have an affect on the blood palets.

As far as I have read on the internet, it is not affecting (at all) the palets. But still looking for concrete, scientific answers.

Did you get any news about it?

Lots of the same comment - but there is no evidence from my useage that the CBD oil has had any effect on my platelet count. I have been taking asprin and HU for 2 years now and this has reduced platelets to steady amount. They have remained stable for the couple of months I have been using HBD.

So I would imagine something else is going on to cause your dramatic drop?

Bren1080 I too have ITP. Or had ITP. I went on the LEAKY GUT DIET a couple of years ago and once I figured out what my body was allergic to I stopped eating it and my platelets went up to normal levels. I had itp for 10 years until I started focusing on healing my gut. It's been said that about 80% of autoimmune diseases come form the gut and I am living proof that it can be fixed. I just started on CBD 2 days ago so no feedback yet. Best wishes...

My son's father had Melanoma 9 years ago, he did interferon, before he started treatment his platelets were 120,000 now, they hover around 20-22,000. He started with a few colonics and the woman who gives them is a nutritionist. He's been working to heal his gut with salads, broths, staying away from grains, dairy, and sugar for a while. His platelets were 30,000 this last time, and they haven't been that in years. He wants to start a 10day waterfast soon!

He has an Autoimmune skin condition where, he breaks out in Welts. It has gone Away, with the diet that he has been following for a month now and he's not having Heartburn all of the time anymore! Healing the gut is the way to go from what I've been seeing!!!👌👌👍👍👍👍

Hemp oil may affect how anticoagulants and blood platelets work or even stop their production. Blood platelets are critical in the process of blood clotting. Because of this possibility, people with blood clotting deficiencies should consume hemp oil only after consulting with their doctors.

I know this is an older thread but I've had the same issue. I have ITP, dx in 2010, last episode in 2012, refractory to steroids alone, reasonable response to steroids and IVIg, and a splenectomy. One flare up after the splenectomy but then in remission for 7 years. I started taking CBD oil for anxiety, headaches and sleep problems and 4 weeks later my platelet count has dropped from ~450,000 to 3000. Before anyone freaks out, I am receiving medical care for it, but I wanted to share here because CBD was one of the only changes I've made in the last couple months and I'm trying to do some research about it. I hadn't found any of the information in previous post about clotting disorders, partly because, hey! Remission for 7 years, it's not something to worry about.
